"...Like Arcade Fire being fronted by a deranged evangelist getting his toenails pulled sans anaesthetic ... An unnerving, apocalyptic couple of minutes of pulpit preaching from utterly demented Adam Woolway, it's terrifying, gargantuan and completely brilliant. Best catch them before the exorcist does though."
NME ~ Greg Cochrane
"Their debut LP, has plenty to say. See single Oh Solitude, a blubbery freak-out of bandstand drumming and stencilled xylophone which borrows the scientific 'orchestral explosion technique' from Broken Social Scene. Meanwhile, disheartening volcanic-rocker God Damn Broke And Broken Hearted threatens to carve out a Guillemots or Mystery Jets-shaped canoe to paddle. If, like they suggest, Liberal England is lying in a ditch somewhere then this is one hellova mayday call. Mute magic."
The Guardian ~ Jude Rogers
"They sing songs in shouty, American-accented unison about wars, graves and solitude over thudding pianos, growling basslines, and relentless percussion, bringing to mind the anarchy of Pixies and the strange pastoralism of British Sea Power."
The Sun ~ SJD
"Portsmouth's SDOLE straddle the line between brilliant and eccentric. They take everything quaint about middle England folkness but mix in a dark sinisterness which bear comparisons with Arcade Fire. The thrashing, euphoric crescendos they manage to create from almost childlike simplicity are invigorating.
"The simple drummed intro to A Day, Another Day gives with to its typical, crashing mix of beauty, marching band bravado and shout-along choruses. Elsewhere delicate sound-scapes wash over you as you spiral upwards, before the feeling of free falling takes over again. Meanwhile SDOLE go about their business wondering what all the fuss is about."

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Hi Ho Strange Death- very much looking forward to seeing you in Camden on saturday. Further to that I have a nice little camera thing, do you mind your songs/gigs being recorded and then uploaded onto Youtube and the like? Any decent results would obviously be given to you to do what you want with.
Also any chance of Oh Solitude being put back into the live setlist? I miss that song a lot.
Now released,
