About Me
I own and run an advertising agency in a little town called Winona, MN called Circle Six Design. I also co-own a pet supply store with my wife, Aditi, called The Urbane Animal. I arrived at this point in my life after ruining everything in my previous life. Without going into gory details, I was a punk rocker who made some mistakes. I wouldn't call this selling out, but rather erasing and starting over. I don't regret most of my past. I wouldn't be where I am if I didn't do what I did. And I like where I am.
My Interests
Climbing, Mountain Biking, juicing (fruit and vegetables, not steroids), design, web development, computers, people watching, finding good bargains on ridiculously expensive clothes.
Music
Classic punk, trip-hop, underground hip-hop, classical in moderation, and heavy metal (not nu-metal, mind you). I will admit that I love Rancid, and old, old country. I will also admit that newer country brings out very bad, very violent reactions in me. I also love Portishead and classic Church albums. I'm not a big fan of classic rock. I appreciate it for what it is, and I truly enjoy the history of rock and roll, but when it comes to my iPod playlist, Zeppelin just doesn't make the cut. Atmosphere out of Minneapolis is probably on the highest rotation in my car right now. And I have a not-so-secret affection for Black Metal and hardcore.
Update: I'm totally into the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club right now.
Movies
I used to be an artsy-fartsy, black and white, if you could understand the plot it didn't count kind of movie guy. As I get older, I find myself getting sucked in by big Hollywood movies. Batman Begins was the greatest thing that's happened to me in a long time ;-). I'm a huge fan of Bill Murray's recent films, starting with Rushmore and going forward. And a big thumbs down on the Meg Ryan genre of films. Can't swallow it. I do like Audrey Tatou
Update: Green Street Hooligans, It's All Gone Pete Tong and Crank have been recent favorites of mine.
Books
I read mostly non-fiction these days. I'm a huge cyberpunk fan, William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Neil Stephenson, etc. I also possess a relatively vast knowledge of classic literature. You know, the kind they make you read in advanced lit classes. My mother was an english teacher, and I could read at a 6th grade level in first grade. So I've read a lot of books. But like I said, the last book I read was a graphic design book called "Making and Breaking the Grid", and one called "Thinking with Type". Not terribly endearing to potential friends, I know...
Update: "Transcending CSS" and "Administrator's Guide to Linux" are my current favorite reads.
