Tubabu is a percussion ensemble based in Des Moines, Iowa that performs West African rhythms and songs. Their high energy performances feature rhythms from Mali, the Ivory Coast and Guinea played on traditional African drums.
Tubabu apprenticed under master drummer Madou Dembele from the Ivory Coast from 2003 to 2005. They performed with Madou throughout Iowa and northern Missouri under the name Super Yankadi . In the summer of 2003, members of the group spent a month in the Ivory Coast studying drumming with Madou’s older brother Dramane Dembele. They also performed with Dramane’s drum troupe at wedding festivals.
Tubabu performs at music venues, festivals and special events around central Iowa and Fairfield. Tubabu also host drum circles. Check our calendar for upcoming shows and drum circles.

Great job last night at Ritual Cafe bringin in the new year. We had a great time listin to you all jam. Cool to see the kids gettin in to it. They were so well mannered and musical at such young ages. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to see you all again. If you could ever come to Marshalltown, we would LOVE it!
