About me:

We meet regularly on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 2-4pm at Round Table Pizza in Tulare. The address is 150 E. Cross Ave.
It is an open and inviting environment; any Atheist or Atheist friendly people are welcome.
It's perfectly understandable that everyone can't always make it to the meetings but if you are interested in meeting local atheists for conversation and friendship, please attend a meeting to see if our group meets your needs.
Photobucket
Our goals are to educate the public about Atheism, encourage church/state separation, support atheists and agnostics in declaring their non-belief, and give atheists a sense of community that might otherwise be missing in their lives.
We meet and discuss topics like religious influence on America, evolution, intelligent design, creationism, current news, books, movies, interesting websites and announcements.

An atheist’s creed
I believe in time,
matter, and energy,
which make up the whole of the world.

I believe in reason, evidence and the human mind,
the only tools we have;
they are the product of natural forces
in a majestic but impersonal universe,
grander and richer than we can imagine,
a source of endless opportunities for discovery.

I believe in the power of doubt;
I do not seek out reassurances,
but embrace the question,
and strive to challenge my own beliefs.

I accept human mortality.

We have but one life,
brief and full of struggle,
leavened with love and community,
learning and exploration,
beauty and the creation of
new life, new art, and new ideas.

I rejoice in this life that I have,
and in the grandeur of a world that preceded me,
and an earth that will abide without me.

-P.Z. Myers

Some of us want more answers on why prop 8 passed. "Yes to ban gay
marriage" 'No to not ban gay marriage" confusing? And sometimes it does
not cross our mind why we may not have equal rights. So please watch
this video and decide for yourself. And next time a "Prop 8" comes
around please take some time to get answers and look for the truth.

I was wondering if there is a way to get Jehovahs Witnesses to stop showing up in my neighborhood. I live in a neighborhood where the majority of residents have big gates or chain link fences and big dogs and it is just annoying sometimes cause all the neighbors dogs bark, Our dogs bark. It is especially annoying  when I wanna sleep in and they are out there at 10 or 11am ON A SATURDAY! And it is like I don't know why they bother... I didn't wanna open up my yard sale when I wanted to this morning just so somebody can force their religion on me, cause they park right outside our gate almost everytime they solicit.

    Much Love!

Thanks for the add. It'd be quite a challenge to band together enough atheists to have proper representation here, I think. Just because it's a blue state and all, doesn't mean anything in this valley. Everyone here goes to church! Being an atheist here is pretty lonely.

Yo, I feel that this group needs a little more representation during meetings. Our numbers are kinda small...c'mon people. The Satanist has attended more meetings....I think I need to offer some kind of challenge.....but what?
  • May 8 2009 6:49 AM

around here? Slim to none. I bet they have some kind of clause in their rules that they would try to invoke.

LGBTQ Action Alert: No On Prop 8 Rally in Visalia
To all supporters of LGBTQ rights who want to take action,

Members of Marriage Equality USA (MEUSA), Porterville LGBTQ, PFLAG, and ACT For Women And Girls will rally in Visalia to show their opposition to Prop. 8.

Prop 8 if passed by a yes vote will amend the State Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry. We are joining together because we believe the constitution should never be used to eliminate the rights of a group of citizens. We will be encouraging others to do what is right and Vote NO on Prop 8.
The wheels of history have been turning forward; help stop Prop 8 from shifting us back into reverse!

PLEASE JOIN US!! Wave a sign, sport your rainbow flags, meet some new friends. Even if you can only stop by for a minute you are welcome and appreciated. Tell everyone you know and invite them too.

If you are unable to attend visit www. noonprop8. com or www. marriageequaity. org for info on how you can help defeat prop 8.

    Date: Wednesday, October 15th
    Time: 5pm-7pm
Location: Mooney and Walnut (Union Bank corner)
    Visalia, CA

I will have some No On 8 signs available, but if you can, please make one and bring it along. Poster paint and a sponge brush work great for making big letters. Must be short and to the point so people can read them while driving by. Please no cursing.

    Some ideas for signs:
No On Hate, No on 8; Don't Discriminate, Vote No On 8; Another Straight Against Prop 8.
Not from Tulare County? Another Valley Resident Voting No on Prop 8

Remember this is a peaceful protest. Please do not engage in arguments with our opposition. That would only make us look bad, and that's what they want.

Strange how you read something and you realize, this is exactly what I always thought and never could express (at least not quite that well!) Here is the quote:

"If I were personally to define religion I would say that it is a bandage that man has invented to protect a soul made bloody by circumstance.
    "
    (attributed to Theodore Dreiser)

I can accept and understand that, because we all need something when we hurt, something to "protect our soul".

Can you be an atheist and still believe in having a soul? I believe I have a soul, the core of what is "me".

Well, just wanted to share this with you this morning....
