Sounds Like
Since I'm not very good at describing what Tulla's Headspace sounds like, you will have to check it out for yourselves.
Tulla's Headspace self titled, debut album is available at:
iTunes CDBaby.com Independent Artist Company
Founded by lead vocalist Laurie Alberts. The name Tulla came from a character created on a mmorpg. The "headspace" is all Laurie's. She teamed up with producer DM Gremlin at DM Gremlin Productions in Long Beach, Ca to record a some-what ecclectic collection of songs, featuring heavy guitar riffs, driving rythems and contagious melodies.
Born in the small town of The Dalles, Oregon, Laurie's desire to sing and perform landed her in the choral programs
throughout jr. high and high school. She was also in and out of several high school bands.
In 1990, Laurie decided to seek out a school with a program for recording engineering. And she found just what she
was looking for at a community college in Huntington Beach, CA, called Golden West College. So she packed up her
bags and hopped on a Greyhound bus bound for Southern California with nothing more than $500.00 in her pocket and
her mom's blessing.
She worked her way through college as a waitress and finished the recording arts program. Then went on to do some
moonlighting jobs as a tracking engineer for some local Orange County studios, including Sound Planet Productions.
Laurie has since put together a small home studio of her own, which she uses as a writing tool
primarily. And now, after being in and out of several projects that have fallen apart she is detemined to start her own.
For the time being she can be seen at Cosmo's Italian Kitchen, a small restaurant in Aliso Viejo, on some Saturday nights
singing covers. "I only get away with pretty mellow stuff there, like Sara McLachlan, Vanessa Carlton, Shawn Colvin
type stuff. It keeps my chops up."
Some of her biggest influences include Kansas, Rush, Judas Priest, Sevendust, Trust Company, and King's X, just to name a few. The list goes on and on. Laurie is a huge music fan and listens to almost everything from hardrock to traditional Celtic.
