Influences
My main influence as a engineer & producer is Alan Parsons. I constantly strive to reach his level of excellence.
Sounds Like
All the studio your band will need. Any thing from a simple demo to a fully mastered CD for release. What does it take to record an artistically satisfying professional recording?
1. Need a good room. Lot of studios are in office buildings. Not the ideal situation, low ceilings. and square parallel walls. In order to keep peace with the neighbors the studio in a office building has heavy sound treatment creating essentially a dead room. Look at all the great studios like Abby Road for example, they are sound treated but not dead.
Tunesmith Studio has none of those problems. We're not in a office building the main studio is 30ft long by 28 ft wide. High vaulted ceiling oak wood floors. The room is properly sound treated but not dead! Therefore vocals, and acoustic guitars, drum kits all sound very natural. The main studio is equipped with a custom designed isolation booth when that is needed.
2. Good microphones. We have that covered and what microphones we don't have on hand we can emulate with an expensive and very powerful microphone modeling software by Antares. Of course a mixer with clean preamps with lots of headroom, is a must.
3. A engineer that knows his stuff!! This is every bit as important if not more so. To be blunt I've heard some really crappy recordings come out of some very expensive studios. I have a saying that fits with what is going on with modern recording engineers. "It's not the gear it's the ears" When you record at Tunesmith Studio you get me as the engineer. I've won awards from industry professionals acknowledging my audio skills. I'm also a songwriter, producer & musician, all of which means I know where you are coming from.
Tunesmith Studio is a professional studio with a comfortable relaxed atmosphere. We are not going win a architecture design award. I didn't spend $100,000 on a fancy studio design that looks great but has little to do with sound quality. We're not a dump either I often hear new clients say "what a cool looking studio". To put it simply we have what is needed to make a great recording.
Tunesmith Studio had its humble beginning in 1994 in the Rio Grande Valley. We sold our gourmet coffeehouse that my wife and I started in 1989 and bought an ADAT, Korg X3, a Mackie 1604 mixer and a EV mic. With that equipment along with my guitars and two small bedrooms converted to a control room and a studio I began writing & producing jingles for TV & Radio commercials. Within a year I won an ADDY Award for the second jingle I sold. The following year I won 9 more ADDY Awards. Producing professional jingles really helped develop my skills as an engineer because they were aired on radio and TV along with other music produced in major studios.
After relocating to San Antonio, Tunesmith Studio now has expanded beyond primarily producing jingles. The current studio is about 3 times the size of the first one. Equiped with a state of the art 24 bit computer based recording system with both tracking and full mastering capabilities. The main studio has a high vaulted ceiling, oak wood floor and a custom made isolation booth. Over the past 7 years I have recorded rock, country bands, songwriters, rappers, church choirs, almost every music style imaginable.
I have a passion for recording. I enjoy the whole process from tracking to mixing & mastering.

A Fathers Wish at Christmas On December 25th a story you will tell Of the baby born in a manger, one we know so well Presents will abound under a decorated tree I ask for only one gift, Remember Me
Before I was born, my future foretold Of great deeds and miracles, and the salvation I hold O'er 2000 years have passed of this celebrated day Forget not my gift, or the price I did pay
The angels wailed loudly, my Father did weep For by the hands of His own creation, My destiny, I did meet So on this day of celebration, hold its meaning true I was born just to die, simply because, I Love You
As you unwrap your presents, and your hearts fill with glee I ask you set aside a simple moment, just to Remember Me
