TUNG won the 2000 Song Slam battle of the bands held at Century Lounge in Providence, RI. In 2003, WMFO FM ranked TUNG 3 Indie bands of 2002. TUNG has made radio appearances on WSMU 91.1FM & WAAF's Baystate Rock with Carmelita. TUNG has also played numerous benefit shows (9/11, Breast Cancer, Homeless, Leukemia, and many more).
Why the name TUNG?
Dave: We were looking for a name that was both evil sounding, but with a sexual kinda feel. At first, due to a mis-reading of a Vietnamese to English dictionary, we thought it was the Vietnamese word for "Victory". Turns out it's the Vietnamese word for a type of palm tree...
Dave Tung said in an interview done with Big Pete Rock, "We love to play, it's not about the money, it's about the feeling you get when you look out in a crowd and see a sea of people digging your music, and the wave of people that are trying to get out of the way of that same carnage! I'd play in a closet if you told me that there would be a crowd there".
2009: TUNG is currently working on a brand new CD and playing out more often these days. The first song from the upcoming CD title "W.T.F" was added to the bands play list on myspace on 5/31/09.
