Sounds Like
Grand and epic musical themes mixed with contemporary rock and pop... there's nothing quite like it, you will have to come and see the show for yourself!!
There are lots more videos of rehearsals for both London productions so far available on YouTube.
Click the above link to see the video recording of the latest production! // Turkish Delight the Opera by Giles Howe and Katy Lipson - easily the strangest thing you will have seen in a while - has just enjoyed a successful run at The Rosemary Branch Theatre in Islington, London. A musical-opera featuring a strong cast of only four singers, it chronicles the final chapters in the life of Betsy Cohen, a stir-crazy Turkish Jewish woman whose husband's extramarital affair drives her over the edge into a dangerous insanity. She finds her long lost strength of character through her rage and vengeance, though it ultimately eats her alive.
It has created a genre all of it's own; taking the depth of drama and vocal agility of the opera and blending it with the humour (albeit dark) of musical theatre; creating its own identity. The show is full of paradox; it is both hilariously funny and deeply tragic and will make you laugh despite being about insanity, rage, adultery, murder, suicide, extradition, and poisoning.
Following three successful London productions, the show returns by popular demand for a fourth time!! Details at www.turkishdelighttheopera.com
Look out for the show when it is next staged, it needs your support to succeed; it's groundbreaking and unforgettable - you will regret having missed it. (!) And you will love it!

Giles and Katy, who wrote Turkish Delight the Opera, are working hard on several new projects, which include the A STAGE KINDLY New Musical Theatre Initiative. They sang in the ensemble of Chess the musical at the Royal Albert Hall, the DVD of which will be released in September.
Giles and Katy are again collaborating on a new project - an epic new musical called Soviet Zion, about the Yiddish homeland in Siberia: Birobidzhan.

Tel Aviv’s 100 Anniversary - New Single – Kol Tel Aviv
This next song is dedicated to the people of New York. And to the people of Paris and London. And to those who inhabit the suburbs of Hamburg, the quiet villages of the Netherlands and Provence. It is dedicated to the masses of Turin and Milan, Barcelona and the Catalan Province. It is dedicated to the extravagant lurkers of Berlin, Prague and Budapest. To those who know their act. Those who understand that when they are looking for the true meaning of the term “Karahana”, there is only one place where they could find it – Ladies and gentleman – welcome to Tel Aviv. In honour of its hundred years anniversary, Yud Kei Zula are proud to present their tribute to the Queen of central Israel, the city engraved in every clubber’s consciousness, the city that doesn’t stop.
New single of Yud Kei Zula, in electronic streaming till the morning light. Let your voice be heard! The voice of Tel Aviv.

SONGS - What an incredible bunch of songs! Such stylistic ambition - I heard grand opera, Gilbert and Sullivan humour, silent movie music, Grand Guignol melodrama, camp comedy, ballads, duets, multiple-voiced harmonies, and all consistent with the dramatic themes. No-one could accuse the songs of lacking ambition. The duets and group songs are particularly impressive with their shared lines and musical sparring.
DRAMA - The first half really took off for me when the Turk is waiting with his flower. The song he sings is fantastic - he is really engaging with the audience's sympathies at the same time as revealing his own inner contradictions. You can't help but be charmed by him and also know the shit will hit the fan at some point. It is quite a poignant moment when he says that girls like flowers because it seems to sum up his attitude that he doesn't realize the possible tragic consequences of his actions. And in the rest of the first half, the action is cranked up really effectively. All four characters are well-rounded and well-defined as well as being so different from each other. Their menage-a-quatre (sort of) makes believable sense and you know it can't end well. Then the Turk gets killed. Killer ending to the first half! …
‘The Turk’ is not performing as he used to. His interests have left his marital boudoir to settle on the fresh - faced ‘British Woman’ whose youthful sex - appeal is launching him, right this minute, into a very promising career of adultery that will do proper justice to his devilish good looks. Meanwhile, an overly made - up and under - dressed Turkish wife despairs at the death of romance. Simultaneously, in England, the effeminate flat - mate of the ‘British Woman’ acknowledges his love for her and pines pathetically for his ‘angel delight’. The ‘British Woma
It is believed that Shakespeare was 46 around the time that the King James Version of the Bible was written. In Psalms 46, the 46th word from the first word is shake and the 46th word from the last word is spear.

Random fact time! :) In the 1830's, the corset was thought of as a medical necessity. It was believed that a woman was very fragile, and needed assistance from some form of stay to hold her up. Even girls as young as three or four were laced up into bodices.
Thank you so much for directing my attention to those photos. They are hilarious. That bloody body suit!!! would be great to see you if you're around in london sometime. good luck with the tour, darling. xxx

It woudl be great if you could come. You can currently download the entire score performed live at The Black Cap and also selections performed live at St Mary's from jamendo.com I hope you enjoy them. I will soon upload videos and sound recordings of our performance!
I have written a musical, worked the score and book and I know what an extreme sport this is. I wish that parts of Turkish Delight were in there threading through my own songs, there are moments of genius at every turn. I love the eerie feel from the soprano and piano and I hope it is never scored out for an orchestra. Some things should be left as they are and this is a work of art, unique and fantastic in it's own right. Katy is instrumental in helping with my work right now and Giles, you are always welcome, if you ever get time. I am blessed to know such inspiring people and I hope I get to take part in the Turkish Delight experience sometime in the future. Giles, when you write you are wired to the sky. Katy you are an Angel.

Hey Giles, Katy and everyone else, who is/was involved!
Thanks for adding me and congratulations on this amazing opera! After I watched the videos here, I decided to download the whole opera, because I really love the voices (especially of Gaz ;-)) and of course the whole music! It would be really great to see Turkish Delight on stage in UK (and maybe even in Germany someday). =) I wish you all the best. You are great!
