Harpman/Vocalist Akarsha "Aki" Kumar took up blues harp seriously in 2003. His first stint playing harmonica was with a band at work, playing along to Beatles tunes. He eventually took up instruction with harp master Dave Barrett and was exposed to the magic of Little Walter and Sonny Boy. Since then, Aki has been sitting in with various bands and musicians around the South Bay Area and recently appeared on KKUP-91.5's 2006 and 2007 Blues Marathons. Aki hopes to make it big in the blues business someday, maybe even pulling in the occasional three-digit pay-check. :)
Gordy:
Born in Minneapolis, Guitarist Gordon "Gordy" Ferguson has been playing blues, folk and rock for over 4 decades. He took 5 years of formal piano lessons when he was a kid but decided that the guitar was his true calling after listening to the tune "Honky Tonk"! In college, Gordy found himself playing for the band BluesPrint which played contemporary blues of the time (The Kingsmen, Paul Butterfield, Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, etc). Continuing his musical activities in grad school at the University of Minnesota, Gordy gigged with the band Coyote, playing folk rock (CSN&Y, Creedence) and other popular music . After grad school, he moved to CA in '72, bidding goodbye to the gigging life until forming Turnaround Blues.
Jeff:
Bassist/Vocalist Jeff Hanselman has over 30 years of experience playing Country, Classic Rock and Blues. Bands he's gigged with include Dave Holcomb & Natches, Loma Prieta Rockers and Blue Beat. Bragging about his talents, Jeff claims "When I played Country early on, the audition went really well -- 'cuz I already knew both chords..."
Brian:
Not much is known about drummer Brian Cox. He wandered into our practice session one day and we liked what we heard. Someday he will let us in on his mysterious past. Until then, his drums will do the talking.
