T.S.O. - original, loud, funny & above all...PUNK! "MOST PUNK BAND 2006" as awarded by CLGR mag! Get this video and more at MySpace.com
In the year 2000 the band now known as 'Turning Space Only' was
formed as a cover band playing songs from bands such as Greenday, the
Offspring and Blink 182 with Adam on bass, Dan on vocals, Jason on guitar and Dave on drums. A year or so went by playing the same old same old, practicing in small rooms with dodgy equipment and then in late 2000 Jason decided he wanted to leave the band to follow music more to his needs. So Dan took over guitar for a bit until somebody new came on the scene.
In early 2001 following a split from his former band the guys brought
Shane into the band. The quality of music got alot better and the band were
extremely tight but still lacked original material. After winning Battle of the
Bands that summer under the name 'Hoodwink' Shane was dismissed from the band for a lack of commitment and resentment to write original songs. The guys then went quiet for a bit but only temporarily.
In early 2002 the band got the break they needed. Following a split from
his former band 'Blank' Jim decided he would like to take the roll of lead guitarist. At last original material began to get written and Dan played rhythm guitar to give the band a thicker sound. The guys left school and all started their college days. Jim, Dan and Adam opted for the same course but Drummer Dave grew apart from the band and there was no band practice for a long while. After a few months of intense writting but no drummer the band still known as 'hoodwink' found drumming skills in a new found friend Laura. After much thought Laura joined the band and 'turning Space Only' was born. The band began writting alot sticking to the basic pop punk songs such as 'Stupid girl' and 'Wanna be a hero', frequently began gigging, getting big crowds at local venues and recorded the 'Hoodwinked' Ep. Then came the downfall of Laura and nearly the split up of 'TSO'.The guys decided that for undisclosed reasons Laura and 'TSO' should part company. Then came a stroke of luck.
New young gun Nick joys had begun the same course as Jim, Dan and Adam at college and after watching his skill-drumming 'TSO' decided he'd fit right in and asked him to join them. Nick joined and things were lookin great as theband began to write more original, harder material rapidly moving away from the pop punk scene and recording thier second EP which remained untitled.
Tunring Space Only then played a few gigs before deciding to record a
new demo (The Last Moon). It was the cd the band had been waiting to create!
The demo was sold at all the gigs after and put in two local shops both of which
sold out and asked for more copy's, which was realy cool for the whole band.
In Febuary 2005 TSO began to record thier first full length E.P which was titled "Don't Die Wondering" and is out now at local shops and at gigs.
TSO are regularly giging around their local area and incresing their ever
growing fan-base. In January 2008 the band known as Turning Space Only decided it was time to call it a day! This page will be left running so you can still hear the tunes etc. You will no doubt be hearing from the remaining members of TSO in the future say stay tuned!
TSO would like to thank all of you who have visted the site/bought the CD's and been to the shows! We will miss playing to ya but we are sure to see you all again soon! THANKS
"....The thing is though, Turning Space Only were just as good, if not better. Bringing a legion of followers from their native St.Austell, who finally got the dancefloor going, they delivered a stimulating, eclectic set, with an inventive, superby-coordinated two-guitar collaboration backed up a pure punk rhythm section. "Escape Routes To Ride" recalled latter-day AFI, bringing spacey effects and goth punk vocal melodies into the picture. Closer "Townie Anthem" saw the band at their most inventive, with elements of widdly metal guitar, raw punk, and terrace-chant vocals giving way to a pummelling Pantera-like outro and a final "fuck you" the perfect send-off. TSO are an old school punk gang of the kind you dont get any more, while Dans magnificent, soaring, Mark Hoppus-on-speed vocals are beautifully juxtaposed with the anarchy raging around him. Treasure this band the Cornish music scene needs them."
