Open Mic for A Cause at Daddios starts Tuesday, March 10th and continues every other Tuesday. Sign up starts at 7:00 pm.

Each month we will pick a different charity organization or a family in crisis to donate 100 percent of the proceeds to. There will be a donation box set up and a suggestion box where people can suggest a charity.

The Charity for March will be THE CENTRAL VIRGINIA FOODBANK.

The Central Virginia Food Bank provides emergency food assistance to more then 193,000 hungry people each month. Each year, they distribute more then 12 million pounds of donated food and grocery products to children, families and frail adults in need in 31 counties and 5 cities in Central Virginia. Richmond has the highest rate of childhood hunger in the state. Voices for Virginia's Children and the Commonwealth Institute released a report on February 17 that predicts that the recession could push an additional 73,000 children in Virginia into poverty. This would represent up to a 30 percent increase in the number of children in poverty in the state. Evidence indicates that many kids pushed into poverty during a recession will remain poor for years, exposing them to the very harmful consequences of prolonged poverty.
The people who receive Foodbank food are among our society's most vulnerable people:

50% goes to Children who live in poverty or who are victims of disasters. 37% are adults-the working poor, disabled, homeless, unemployed or mentally ill and 13% are elderly people stuggling to survive on limited incomes- and to pay for medicine.

What a fun crowd this past Saturday night (10/18/08). We enjoyed putting on a great show for you and your patrons.
