From Sunday at the end of this week until Friday of next week, Denver will be hosting the National Congress of American Indians 64th Annual Tradeshow and Convention.

On the Agenda, one of the "pre-meetings" will be a Federal Recognition Taskforce. I think it would be beneficial for representatives of various non-recognized tribes in the east to make it a point to be here in Denver for at least this pre-meeting.

Eastern tribes have unique challenges to recogntion, such as having treaties, but not with the U.S. as sovereign (treaties with the English, French "those who lost the war" and so the precedent is not binding on the U.S. as the current sovereign). Or they have treaties with individual colonies rather than with the national government all pre-dating American independence. California tribes face similar challenges as most of their agreements are with Spain or Mexico. I think it would be beneficial to have a presence of eastern tribes at this conference to present the unique challenges the taskforce may not otherwise consider. Here is the link to the convention.

The only remedy I see is use your voting power, write letters to ask questions and demand your representatives address the abuse of authority and power.
Remember the Nazis took over Germany in the same manner this president is trying to do. Don't make the same mistakes the Germans did. Open your eyes and awake to the realities going on in this country and if you don't believe what you see or what you read, research it for yourself. What is being shown is only the tip of the iceburg.

"Real I.D." is scheduled for implimentation May of 2008. Get educated and open your eyes.
