TU SHUNG PENG est un groupe Reggae qui officie dans sa forme actuelle depuis 2000. Il réunit 8 musiciens et un ingé-son, accompagnés désormais par le chanteur jamaïcain RAS DANIEL RAY.
Se présentant initialement comme un backing band, le groupe s'associe à différents chanteurs jamaïcains tels que Ras Daniel Ray, Ganja Tree et Jahko Lion, avec lesquels il se produit sur scène en première partie d'artistes prestigieux : Toots and the Maytals, Gladiators, Skatalites, Twinkle Brothers, Anthony B, Mickey Dread, Abyssinians, Michael Rose, Rod Taylor, Earl 16, Groundation, Ken Boothe ...
Les diverses expériences du groupe précisent sa direction artistique et ses
ambitions. Quelques morceaux sont enregistrés dans un premier temps, sous leur
forme exclusivement instrumentale. Parallèlement, l'opportunité est saisie d'enregistrer
sur ces riddims inédits de grands représentants de la musique jamaïcaine : Justin
Hinds, Lone Ranger, Ken Boothe ou Mikey Dread. L'idée de l'album est ainsi née
: réunir nos chanteurs aux côtés d'autres comme aussi Al Pancho, Jah Marcus
et Difanga sur la musique originale de TU SHUNG PENG.
Le parfum unique du premier album, "AROUND TU SHUNG PENG", provient certainement
des méthodes d’enregistrement employées. Ainsi les chanteurs, découvrant pour
la plupart le jour même les morceaux, ont dû faire appel à tout leur métier,
leur sens musical et d’improvisation, pour s’approprier la musique et la transcender.
Cet album est donc le fruit d'un long travail ou les arrangements musicaux,
mêlés de jazz et de soul, s’associent aux performances vocales des artistes
et au mixage dub, pour aboutir au son TU SHUNG PENG.
Le public ne s'y est pas trompé, puisque fort de son succès en auto-distribution,
notamment sur fnac.com, le disque est édité en mai 2008 par le label MAKASOUND
(distribué par PIAS) et disponible dans tous les magasins.
TU SHUNG PENG tourne actuellement en concert avec RAS DANIEL RAY.... Et prépare
un album avec lui, prévu pour 2009.

On reconnait certains titres historiques distillés à la sauce Tu Shung. Les gens groovent, bouncent et s’oublient dans cette bonne vibe jamaïcaine. La bass et le clavier font vibrer les murs de la Bellevilloise, les cuivres résonnent et calibrent des riddims efficaces, les gens se déhanchent comme s’ils étaient sur une plage en vacances...Tu shung a fait oublier la grisaille parisienne. TU SHUNG PENG is a Reggae band which acts in its actual form since year 2000.
It is composed of eight musicians, a sound engineer, and the jamaïcan artist
RAS DANIEL RAY.
Initialy introducing themself as a backing band, the group joins with various
jamaïcan singers such as Ras Daniel Ray, Ganja Tree and Jahko Lion to perform
one stage as first part of prestigious artists: Toots and the Maytals, Gladiators,
Skatalites, Twinkle Brothers, Anthony B, Mickey Dread, Abyssinians, Michael
Rose, Rod Taylor, Earl 16, Groundation, Ken Boothe...
The various experiences of the group drive their artistic target and ambitions.
Some items are recorded in a first step exclusively under their instrumental
content. Meanwhile the opportunity is seized to record on these unpublished
riddims some famous performers of jamaïcan music: Justin Hinds, Lone Ranger,
Ken Boothe or Mikey Dread. The idea of the album is born that way: bring our
singers together beside others such as Al Pancho, Jah Marcus and Difanga to
perform on the original music of TU SHUNG PENG.
The unique scent of the first album,”AROUND TU SHUNG PENG”, certainly comes
from the recording methods that were used. The singers discovering the set of
parts, for most of them on the recording day, had to call out all their master
experience, their musical sense of improvisation to make the music their own
and transcend it. This album is indeed the fruit of long developpements where
the musical arrangements, mix of jazz and soul, in addition with the artists
vocal performances and the dub mixing brings up the TU SHUNG PENG sound.
Public didn’t get mixed up, because strong of its success through self-distribution,
mainly on fnac.com, the record is published in mai 2008 by the MAKASOUND label
(distributed by PIAS) and available within all stores.
Bitten by the concept of the first album, TU SHUNG PENG hammers in the nail,
and will release its second album ”TROUBLE TIME” as soon as the 2008 entrance,
album in which will appear: Clinton Fearon, Michael Rose,Derrick Harriot, Rod
Taylor, Prince Jazzbo, Tapper Zuckie, Ranking Joe, U Roy, U Brown, Johnny Dizzy
Moore, Joseph Cotton, Ras Daniel Ray... . It will be published by aforsaid MAKASOUND.
TU SHUNG PENG is actually performing in concert with RAS DANIEL RAY... and
prepare together un album expected in 2009.
