CHASKA is a Southamerican Folk Metal band formed in Arequipa - PERU, in 2002.
The idea to form the band was born at the end of 2000. After a long and intense time looking around people that were able to be part in this serious project, CHASKA is finally formed in the beginning of 2002 and ready to go on the march. The first live performance happened in Arequipa on June of 2002, and after some shows the band goes to play out of this city in August for the first time. On December of 2002 CHASKA had a participation on a contest that was organized by a local radio station, obtaining as praise the recording of two unpublished songs. Due to the participation on the contest, CHASKA obtain in February of 2003 the recording of their DEMO, entitled with the same name of the band, with two tracks: "SWEET LOVER" and "IMPERIO CAIDO". This first record allow the band to play in different places of Peru. CHASKA goes abroad to play in some cities like Lima, the capital of Peru, one of those festivals or concerts was a CHUCK SCHULDINER TRIBUTE that was an official event; besides performed on Arica - CHILE and then for an opening act to SEPULTURA in La Paz - BOLIVIA. In the middle of 2005 CHASKA was invited for co-conducting a special for the band in a local TV program, for this reason the band filmed a home video for the "IMPERIO CAIDO" track that was made on collage version. Then CHASKA followed playing in Arequipa, having a big acceptance among the people not only from this city, also from other cities from Peru. In the middle of 2007 the band presented, in their site on MySpace and a promotional CD, two new tracks: "BICOLOUR CANNIBALISM" and "TUTA CH'ASKA", as advance of their "PURURAUCA" debut album.
Now, in this 2009, the band presents their debut full-length CD entitled "PURURAUCA"; this album is produced by the indie label MYTHIC METAL PRODUCTIONS from Peru.
CHASKA could be described as a Folk Metal band, because the band mixes Heavy Metal with some folk elements from Peru.
"Ch'aska" is a Quechua word that was used by the Incas to mention the most shining star in the skies. This word is especially familiar with the planet VENUS.

CHASKA es una banda de Folk Metal Suramericano formada en Arequipa - PERÚ, en el año 2002.
La idea de formar el grupo nace a fines del año 2000. Luego de una intensa búsqueda de músicos dispuestos a involucrarse en un proyecto serio, es que recién a inicios del 2002 la banda queda finalmente formada y lista para emprender su marcha. La primera aparición en vivo ocurre en Arequipa por junio de ese año, y después de algunas presentaciones en dicha ciudad el grupo sale por primera vez a tocar fuera de ésta en el mes de agosto. CHASKA sigue brindando shows en la escena arequipeña, hasta que en diciembre del 2002 el grupo participa y gana un concurso de bandas realizado por una radio local, obteniendo como premio la grabación de 2 temas inéditos. Gracias a esto, en febrero del 2003, CHASKA logra grabar un DEMO titulado con el mismo nombre de la banda y presentado en CD-R con 2 temas: "SWEET LOVER" e "IMPERIO CAÍDO". Este primer trabajo permite al grupo presentarse en distintas ciudades del Perú, además de tocar en la ciudad de Arica - Chile y de ser invitada para telonear a la banda SEPULTURA en La Paz - Bolivia. A mediados del 2005, CHASKA es invitada a colaborar en la conducción de un programa musical de la TV arequipeña, para tal ocasión se hizo un video clip casero en versión "collage" del tema "IMPERIO CAÍDO". Luego la banda continuó tocando en Arequipa, consiguiendo una gran aceptación no sólo de la gente de esta ciudad sino también de muchas otras ciudades del Perú. A mediados del 2007 CHASKA presenta, por medio de su sitio en MySpace y de un CD-R promocional, dos temas nuevos: "BICOLOUR CANNIBALISM" y "TUTA CH'ASKA", como adelanto de lo que luego sería su álbum debut "PURURAUCA".
Ahora, en este año 2009, la banda presenta su primer CD titulado: "PURURAUCA"; álbum producido por el sello independiente MYTHIC METAL PRODUCTIONS del Perú, con sede en Lima - Perú y en Buenos Aires - Argentina.
Se puede catalogar a CHASKA como una banda de Folk Metal, ya que fusiona el Rock Pesado con algunos elementos del folklore nacional peruano.
Ch'aska es una palabra de la lengua Quechua, con la cual los incas llamaban así a la estrella más luminosa o a los luceros en el firmamento. Esta palabra está muy relacionada en especial con el planeta Venus.

Muy bueno su disco Pururauca, un exelente trabajo. Escuche su album en un programa de radio de metal en mi provincia, y me facino. Yo soy de Salta, al norte de Argentina, un provincia donde prevalece la musica folklorica.
