I was born in Bogota, Colombia on October 16th, 1989. I grew up listening to all kinds of music both Latin and American. My mom played guitar and sang, and as a kid I always admired her talent, so when I was 13 years old I bought my first guitar and taught myself how to play it. I began singing around the same time, but back then it was more like yelling than singing. I joined my first band in 2004, and it was there that I met Bish. To be honest, I wasn’t a good singer at all, and I was criticized very harshly because of it, but all the criticism gave me fuel to become a better singer, and because of it I became a better lyricist as well. For a short period in 2007 and for most of 2008, I embarked on a solo career, in which I wrote many of the songs that we play now as a band, one of them being “Not the Day”. This song brought me and Bish musically together once again, and after finding Ian and Isaac, Twelve O’Clock Knob was officially born. I still don’t consider myself a great singer, nor a great guitar player for that matter, but I do believe my talent comes in songwriting. I’ve written over a hundred songs, but I’ve yet to express everything I want, I feel, and I know.
Bish - Bass
These events happened over the course of my entire time in high school
My whole life I hated music, I covered my ears and cried in the car to make my mom turn it off. Music gave me headaches and it wasn’t until the 8th grade (2004) that I finally began to like it. This was when some friends and I got together and started a band. My first guitar was a cherry red, limited edition Fender Stratocaster. The practices consisted of us trying to learn some Sublime songs then getting bored and just going to the neighborhood pool. I ended up getting in a fight with the guys during the summer before 9th grade and pretty much went into high school with no real friends. I met some new friends, including Santiago, and it turned out they needed a bass player. This band made us the outcasts of the school, with constant taunting because of it. The band broke up then reformed under a different name with all the same members, except revolving drummers, in which Isaac actually played drums for us for about a week. Finally Santiago split from the rest of us. That formation lasted a while and became my funky influence. I really honed my skills with those guys just jamming constantly. For a while Santiago rejoined us and we recorded several songs, but in the end it didn’t work out again. Ultimately that project died from the lack of a singer. I had always told Santiago if he needed a bass part recorded on one of his songs, that I would do it. He took me up on that offer and “Not the Day” resulted. The song turned out so great that we formed the then unnamed “Twelve O’Clock Knob.” For the first month we spent countless hours promoting the song on MySpace. We got Isaac on board again and found Ian through Craigslist. Eventually they had other obligations and had to quit. There are only two core members of Twelve O'Clock Knob and essentially two rotating help. Now here we are. I’ve been playing bass now since January 2005.
With memorable hooks and meaningful lyrics, Twelve O'Clock Knob is truly a band unlike others. Twelve O'Clock Knob came together in late 2008, when singer/songwriter Santiago Prada called upon childhood friend and fellow musician Danny "Bish" Bishop for help on a song. They had been playing music on and off since 2005, and after seeing that the chemistry was still there, they decided to embark on another chapter in their musical journey. They recruited the help of drummer Isaac Slone and guitarist Ian Robinson, both great musicians coming from musical backgrounds. The band was fortunate enough to play its first show at 202 Market, one of Roanoke's best live music venues, and they have been busy ever since, playing different venues ranging from Awful Arthur's to the Taubman Museum of Art. Dedication and love for the music is what has driven these four musicians this far, and yet, this is only the beginning.
