DESCRIPTION
‘resonant embers’ is a compilation featuring Paul Bradley, Maile Colbert, irr. app. (ext.), jgrzinich, Andrew Liles, Colin Potter and Ubeboet who have all previously been released through our parent label Twenty Hertz.
Here we have seven artists presenting seven tracks of drones both stoically austere and upliftingly melodic, haunting melodies, beautifully evocative vocals, engaging field recordings and disorientating environments.
There are many things that link these artists together but it is their differences that are more interesting. There is a fundamental contrast in approach and execution with each channeling their creativity in differing ways from drones and soundscapes, through melodic instrumental pieces to environmental recordings and opera. The artists presented here have created individual works that display a unique voice and emotion, all the while creating a collectively involving work that is rewarded with repeated listens.
‘edition sonoro’ are very pleased and indeed darn right proud to be bringing these artists together on ‘resonant embers’ and hope that listeners will enjoy the unique and emotional journey they have created.

DESCRIPTION
CONSUMED is an amalgam of drones and textures that entwine and wrap around themselves to create an environment of altered reality. CONSUMED shares similar traits with ‘Somatic' (con-v 2007) where the origin of the sounds and the concept behind creating them is ultimately unimportant for the listener, who it is intended, will make their own judgments and create their own emotional responses.
The fundamental difference between CONSUMED and ‘Somatic' is that here a visual counterpart is also presented. Like the audio the origins of the visuals are unimportant, representing the audio in only the most abstract of ways, complimenting it with it's obscured, high contrast and saturated colours that slowly drift, blur and meld together.
The dvd is purposely authored without any menus or chapters, you simply put it in your machine and play. It is stereo sound, region free pal and should not pose a problem for any modern dvd players.
FROM THE ARCHIVE: A surprising and (very) rough and ready glimpse into a studio rehearsal between Colin Potter and myself done in 2005. There’s even some drums in there (though it ain’t no disco). Seems we were having fun with a granulator plugin :-)
It fades out before anyone gets hurt too badly. A strange departure.

Paul Bradley:
Originally from the UK, Paul Bradley is a musician who creates textural drones to
re-describe the sonic landscape. Sounds are abstracted from life, reinterpreted and given a new context. Instruments, most notably guitar, are disembodied and twisted into new sound-worlds creating rich, sonorous organic abstractions. Concepts are rarely made explicit or even discussed under the belief that language would destroy the un-temporal and emotional aspects of the work.
Releases have been issued on a number of labels including ICR (UK), Alluvial Recordings (USA), Shining Day (PL), Small Voices (IT), Con-v (ES) and also on his own label Twenty Hertz. Collaborations have been plentiful working with contemporaries such as Colin Potter, Maile Colbert, Andrew Liles and also as a recent member of Monos. As well as being issued on CD these “sensual strung-out vibrations” have been shown and performed both solo and in collaboration in the UK, Spain, Portugal and the USA.
Paul also runs Twenty Hertz and Edition Sonoro issuing recordings from the likes of Ubeboet, Keith Berry and Jgrzinich and also co-organised a series of live events entitled Intergration which included artists such as Keith Rowe, Andrew Chalk, Jonathan Coleclough and Scribble Seven (aka Nurse With Wound).
Review quotes:
“(Liquid Sunset) is an absolutely beautiful piece. Let there be no mistake about it.”
Vital Weekly
“As if watching a highway glowing in the burning sun, the flickering heat radiated by these tracks turns into a sensation of its own, morphing and loosing its form…”
Tokafi
“…some of the most spellbinding electronic works of the last decade.”
Touching Extremes
TRANSLATIONS :
Castellano;

FROM THE ARCHIVE: Ultra short 'blink and you'll miss it' clip from the only live Monos performance.
Four minute video clip from the performance at Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània March 28th 2007. Crossfaded from various points within the 45 minute performance.
the room is dark
the eyes strain to focus
a lack of sight is said to sharpen hearing, invoking a more conscious listening
the sound, somewhere between music and memory
provoking the state right before sleep
when the mind wanders through it's past.
like staring into the dark as a child
the eyes suddenly snap focus
straining to find if what they thought they saw was actually there.
slowly
in and out like breath
images take form around you.
out of the corner of your eye
like night swimming bubbles rising to the surface of a moonlit lake
dreamy figures start to take shape
moving in and out of the space around you
weaving with the sound.
TRANSIT is an environment created to immerse the viewer in a space just out of recognition and suspending them in this state to better experience and think about the places in-between. In-between sleep and wakefulness. In-between memory and emotion. In-between the inhale and exhale, where snatches of something almost recognizable appear and dissolve, distorted through our altered consciousness.
