Band MembersENQUIRIES ABOUT PERFORMING at TWICKFOLK.

If you want to investigate the possibility of playing at TwickFolk please send us an email or MySpace message with a few details about yourself and a link to where we can hear some of your music (in the same stripped down form in which you would be performing).

It's not particularly useful if the links are to songs from a 'produced' album....we want to hear how you actually sound playing in a LIVE situation. We'll give everything submitted due consideration and reply wherever possible.

Most artists who get a headline booking are likely to be already known to us through radio, media, reviews etc. If you aren't in that category it's unlikely we can offer a headline spot until you get better known (so that we can get an audience to see you).

We occasionally have booked 'support' spots available for the up-and-coming artists who we believe have genuine promise. These are 30 minute spots but generally we only offer them on the bigger guest nights and we always reimburse in some way (expenses or a small fee).

If we don't have a 'booked' support artist we generally have two or three ten minute (two song) 'floor' spots available. These are unpaid (but all performers get a 50% entry discount)

We get many enquiries and always try to reply to them all but are unlikely to have the time to enter info further correspondence once a decision has been made! Thanks!

Influences

This is 'Devil's Paintbrush Road', probably Annabelle Chvostek's best known song, one that she recorded during her time with the Wailin Jennys

We can't find any YouTube clips of Sally Barker singing any Joni Mitchell songs but here she is leading The Poozies in a version of 'Another Train', Pete Morton's classic song

This is Pamela Wyn Shannon who will be our first guest in December, singing 'Flora' from her debut album 'Courting Autumn'.

Here's some rare live video of Richard Dobson performing live recently

Home of the best in British and American Roots Music

TwickFolk @ Cabbage Patch Pub, 67 London Road, Twickenham, Middsex TW1 3SZ

NB Occasionally when there are events at the National Rugby Stadium nearby we've been known to move temporarily to another location. Usually a couple of miles North to The Coach & Horses Pub on London Road, Isleworth. Please check the listings carefully to make sure you arrive at the right place!

We've been presenting folk music events most Sundays at the Cabbage Patch Pub in Twickenham since 1983. It's now one of best known and most highly respected folk venues in the London area and takes great pride in presenting an eclectic selection of folk/acoustic acts from all over the world in 'concert' conditions

Here's a live video of Richard Shindell performing "There Goes Mavis" at the club in 2007

Here's one that got away....the late great Dave Carter singing 'Cowboy Singer' with the (still great) Tracy Grammer

The room we use is a restaurant the rest of the time but the pub does excellent pizzas so you can still eat at 'The Patch'. In the music room itself there's no bar (and certainly no chatting!). There's a great selection of beers/drinks in the adjoining bars.

Please note our "Friends" Policy

We don't intend this to sound snooty but we've decided to be a little careful with choosing our MySpace 'friends'. There seem to be a lot of MySpacers trawling around with the sole intention of making their friends list as large as possible. However, we're not planning to collect friends indiscriminately if we think we've got nothing in common or if we've never even heard of you!

The basic idea is that we'll add you if you're someone who's played at the club or someone we'd love to have play for us....and also we'll happily 'add' club members, regulars and any organizations we admire: (Venues, agents, record companies, distributors, magazines, radio stations etc) . If you don't come into any of these categories we hope you won't mind....we're likely to 'decline' the invitation!

A bit of advance notice - MondayMonday proudly presents Rún and Steven Finn and more at The Wilmington Arms, Clerkenwell on Monday 7th December

Rún collect and arrange old folk songs written in the ancient language of Erin. So far, thanks to Nora from Donegal, they have a nice wee collection of well-known ditties and are now adding to their repertoire with some unusual old forgotten songs from the province of Ulster. Rún are five fantastic lassies who perform four-part vocal arrangements of old Gaelic songs like ’An Cailín Rua’ (the red-haired girl), ’Casadh an tSúgain’ (twisting the hayrope) and ’Bo Na Leath Adhairce’ (the one-horned cow). Rún is the Gaelic word for ’secret, wish or love’ (cf. rune). See http://www.myspace.com/runceol ..

Steven Finn’s ears were filled with the music of Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Johnny Cash and old time country music. Aged 15 he began teaching himself the guitar, learning songs like Leadbelly’s ‘Bourgeois Blues’ and Charlie Daniels’ ‘The devil went down to Georgia’. On hearing Bob Dylan songs Finn started to write his own words and in doing so found a lifelong passion for Jazz and Folk Blues, a getaway car he could drive.

Hi! Thanks for the add! We had a great night on Friday down in London at the QEH, glad you enjoyed our set! We wir kinda sad as that was the end of our amazing year but, we also had a great night on Sat at the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards, where we won the 'Up and Coming Artist of the Year' so that cheered us up needless to say!

Hope your well and hopefully catch up with ya soon! Stay in touch!
