In the times when most of their counterparts within the scene have gone grotesque paying more attention to everything but the true dedication in their actions, Poland’s IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE remain untouched by any need for hype. In contrast, the five piece are still busy with what they’ve been here for in last couple of years: generating a solid, high-octane and not over-polished entity of metal art.
Formed back in 2003 under the name Over the Edge, the band managed to release two EP’s but it was the 2006 debut full length “Buried in Between” which absorbed the attention of extreme metal and hardcore followers as well as the reviewers across the Old Continent and in the US. The album was met with positive response, showcasing essential and the most valuable landmarks of modern metal categories and hardcore approach of things. Making those two different worlds collide, IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE proved trustworthy enough to play shows not only in their homeland but also in Germany, Russia and Baltic states, sharing stages with bands like The Black Dahlia Murder, Heaven Shall Burn, The Ocean or Arkangel on the bill. Their blend of thrash intensity, death metal harmony and hardcore rawness combined with lyrical themes emphasizing the permanent focus on human rights, defense of humanist values as well as political/social/ecological awareness display the credibility and persistence the scene seems to be running short of nowadays.
After the departure of the original singer, the band was touring for over a year with several live vocalists. After finding the permanent solution of personal issues in 2008, IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE commenced works on the new material. A winter trip to Mustache Ministry Studio in Warsaw was made in December that year to prepare songs for the promo EP heralding the coming of the second full length record. Then, the effort received its final rounds from the Swedish underground production legend Pelle Henricsson who took care of the mastering process at the renowned Tonteknik Recording in Umeå (Entombed, Cult of Luna, In Flames or Poison the Well). This short recording exposes more sophisticated but at the same time more transparent course taken by IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE. The musical legacy of Heaven Shall Burn, Amon Amarth and At the Gates still serves as the bottom line here but on the other hand a trace of a fresh influence can be found. The sense of melody can reveal leanings towards the masters of atmosphere and melancholy – Katatonia or Sentenced. Combined with the lyrical layer addressing a strong message of awareness, self-reliance, responsibility and social criticism, each of the songs pushes the group’s style to an all-new level.
It’s the highest time for IN TWILIGHT’S EMBRACE to emerge. Hear them coming, loud and proud!
