“KATOOMBA - That’s where we play”
The next chapter in Blue Mountains hip-hop history was written when Joe New former D.U.B MC (Sydney’s JJJ unearthed winners) and Caustic, ex-producer and percussionist of BlindHoarse (Sublime residents and hip-hop rockers from way back) joined forces to create Two Toes. The two met in the Katoomba café scene, (the only paying refuge for mountains musos) quickly realising their common ground and a desire to create something different. On their debut release Cooking With Caustic, the crew have put together a sound and vibe that fits not only as a soundtrack to the Blue Mountains hip hop lifestyle but demonstrates their dedication to quality home made sounds.
The album Cooking with Caustic was crafted at the Raw Produce studio in Wentworth Falls. All the tracks were made with live instrumentation, no samples are used and the result is an album that is fundamentally hip hop with a flavour unlike its contemporaries in its freshness. Tracks take us on a journey, a lot like a big night out in Katoomba, with stories of reflection, hometown pride and blatant party boy honour. With Caustic on the congas, djembe and keys, tracks were put together from jams, then looped. But a project like this called for some in put and so Two Toes called in some buddies to work on the album, mixing it up with guest MC's Dialectrix (DUB & Chasm), Tucka (Thundamentals & Rumpunch) and Jeswon (Thundamentals & Chasm). Thundamentals turntablist DJ Morgs is on the cuts and Warren Abela, Bass player extraordinaire (Blindhoarse, Havknotz) brings the funk on the bass.
The crew have been warming up local Blue Mountains crowds since completing the album and always pack the dance floor. Their shows exhibit the live skills creating an atmosphere of excitement and mateship, all the boys together having a damn good time. Two Toes will release Cooking with Caustic mid June 2008 and plan to take their show around Australia.
