Today, in the Ocean we find an average of 6 pounds of plastic - per one pound of plankton..
Annual beach cleanups have spread to every state in the Union, all US territories and more than 100 countries around the world. In 2006, 358,617 volunteers picked up over 7 million pounds of trash from 34,560 miles of coastline nationwide.
You can make a difference by participating in a Beach-Clean Up Program near you!

Hakkımda: Originally named for the unmistakable markings on his dorsal fin, sighting of Two-V was first documented in 1995. WDF uses photo identification to identify individual dolphins. Characteristic scars--such as the "V" notches in this dolphin's dorsal fin, are permanent "fingerprints" of individual dolphins. Since he was adult-sized back in 1995, he must be at least 13 years old now. The textbook lifespan for a spinner dolphin is 20 years.
Like many dolphin pods, Two-V spends some of his time near the shore, playing and resting with his pod. The shallow waters offer protection from predators, but are not always safe. Here Two-V's pod may come across large amounts of beach litter like cigarette butts, sandwich bags, cans, bottle caps, and much more. When debris is left on the beach it can get washed into the ocean by a small breeze or a wave. Here it can entangle marine animals, slowly break down and pollute the ecosystem, or even be mistaken for food. Please keep our beaches clean for others to enjoy, humans and marine life alike!

Kimle tanışmak isterim: —The Bad, Bad Cigarette Butt—
According to data collected by The Ocean Conservancy, cigarette butts are the most common type of litter on earth. Collectively, they weigh in the millions of pounds. Trillions of cigarette butts are disposed of yearly, many directly tossed into the environment. Cigarette filters are made out of cellulose acetate, a plastic that takes several years to degrade. Learn more about cigarette butt litter!
Cigarette butts accumulate outside of buildings, on parking lots, and in streets where they can be transported through storm drains into streams and rivers. In addition to being unsightly, the chemicals that leach out of cigarette butt litter present a toxic threat to aquatic animals. The compounds in discarded cigarette butts (the filters and remnant tobacco) are biohazards to the water flea, Daphnia magna, a small crustacean at the lower end of, but important to, the aquatic food chain. Cigarette butts in the environment are an important litter issue—not a smoking issue. Article on cigarette butts' effects on the water flea

Update: Stray black dog who's friend was killed by hit & run truck.
Pictures I took today 10/22 Thurs. of the stray black dog whose best friend, another black male dog was purposely run over & killed by someone in a white truck couple months ago in front of me & this dog who lost the only living thing he ever let near him.
He's eating a bowl of dry food, always takes food out the bowl & puts it on the ground before eating. I took the pics through my front window screen, he's a lot further than it looks. We built a cover over the bowl so the food doesn't spoil in rain, still won't come in garage to eat.
Little guy's gone underground, we think he stays under a small bridge that goes over a running stream partly on our property. He still hangs out in the cow pasteur across the road. My husband says there's small hollow caves, nooks & crannies where he can protect himself from bad weather under bridge.
He's not skinny anymore & is eating food we put out for daily. We still try to coax him but he runs, he's become wild.
My friends here followed this story since the other dog was alive & I was trying to rescue both. You showed a lot of kindness & concern for th
