Some audio from the "In My Life" concert for Brad, and a few gems from the band with Brad in years past..
Music
I love Jazz, particularly pianists like Ahmad Jamal, Cyrus Chestnut, Herbie Hancock, Hiromi, and Eldar.
I am a pathetic full-fledged Beatle nut.
"Parachutes" is my favorite record in 10 years.
Paul Simon is my favorite songwriter ever, with Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson and Pete Townsend close behind.
I believe everyone should own a copy of "Kind of Blue".
I am a fair-weather Deadhead.
I do like the Rock and Roll music.
"Kiko" by Los Lobos is a masterpiece.
Brian Wilson's "Smile" was all I listened to for 2 months when I got it.
I consider Duke Ellington to be the greatest American composer.
I have purchased "Dark Side of the Moon" 7 times.
Movies
Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw in a theatre. So far, nothing has come close to that experience. I have an ever changing top 10 list, but perennial favorites include Caddyshack, The Fisher King, Casablanca, The Blues Brothers, The Matrix, Rio Bravo, A Few Good Men, Being There, The Usual Suspects, The Big Labowski, Jaws, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Spinal Tap
Television
I like cartoons. (big whoop, wanna fight about it?) I think The Simpsons are more real than most people I have met, South Park is more relevant than CNN, and Family Guy is funnier than any sitcom. I get all my news fom Jon Stewart, my obscure references from Robot Chicken, my slapstick from the Stooges, and my drama from Law & Order. Columbo is still my favorite TV detective, although Monk is well worth the time. Guilty TV pleasure, I am a Trekkie.
Books
Detective novels account for 90% of my reading. Great characters, great stories. I have read all of the Robert Parker "Spenser" books, and I love Dennis Lehane, Raymond Chandler, James Ellroy, Ed McBain, Caleb Carr, etc. As a kid I read the complete Sherlock Holmes, and all of the original Bond stories by Ian Flemming. I also enjoy Orson Scott Card's "Ender" series of sci-fi, and John Irving books, particularly "A Prayer for Owen Meany".
Heroes
In no particular order, Jim Henson, Winston Churchill, my Uncle Bill, Danny DeVito, Frank Zappa, Mel Blanc, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Moe Howard, Mario Lemieux, Peter Sellers, Thomas Edison, Groucho Marx, Rob Reiner, George Martin, Yoda, John Belushi.
