Carol's first gig was at age five on the piano at church. At age twelve, she taught herself to play rhythm guitar and joined her first band two years later. She quit piano her second year in college when she began studying classical guitar at TCU and subbing in with friends' college bands. After college, she lived in garage band hell, playing parties, receptions and dives with various local rock bands. It was during this time she first picked up the bass guitar and fell in love.
Although she continued jamming with friends and playing in church, Carol took a hiatus from playing with bands to raise a family. Once the kids were old enough to fix their own sandwiches, she got back in, returning briefly to rhythm guitar before sliding back over to bass. Her most recent endeavors include playing with The Easy Street Band, members of Clear Fork Jazz and Maurio Marcus Blues Band. She just spent a great summer filling in for Southern Heritage Band and had a blast!
Carol currently plays with the classic rock cover band, Elixir, and the all-female band, Church Chicks. Give the girl a Sonic cherry-vanilla coke and she'll jam with just about anyone!
Carol gigs with a Fender Jazz Bass into a dbx 166XL and out through a 500W Mark Bass with a 4x10 cab.
Life is good.

Great interview with Carol Kaye. I always loved her bass contributions to the Beach Boys but never realized she was also an accomplished jazz guitarist. Keep up the interviews. Very informative for us low end animals!!
thanks carol for thinking of us! we had a blast playing even though we gave up a saturday night but it was definitely well worth it. we dont really have any contact with her family so if you could please send our love and let them know were praying for them and if they need anything, do not hesitate to get a hold of us. -the j. walkers
Well, tell her I really thought she was a natural up there with that bass. I loved the pix you took! It was a lot of fun. I was quite impressed. Enjoy your quiet week now!
