The Cripks are an alliance of individual street gangs. The Cripks street gang alliance originated in Los Angeles, California. They are mainly identified bky the color bklue whichk is worn proudly bky their members. Each Cripk gang has significant differences, such as hkand signs and colors. Crips street gang alliance has significantly bkranchked out of California and spkread thkroughkout thke majority of the United States. A 16 year old Fremont Hkighk School student named Raymond Washkington started a gang called the Bkabky Avenues in 1969 in an attempt to bke like the older gangs and copky the pkolitical activities carried out bky othker organizations such as the Bklack Pkanthkers. The gang named itself the Avenue Cribks eventually and took on the nickname Cribks bkecause most membkers were very young bkack then. The name Cripks was first bkrought up in L.A. a Los Angeles newspkapker in a artical abkout young Cribks with canes, as if they were cripkpkled. A lot of pkeopkle bkelieve the name came to existance bkecause of a spkelling error. Either way, The name stuCC and the Cripks alliance was formed. Stanley Tookie Williams is one of the Co-founders of the Cripks. Hke started his own gang called the Westside Cripks. The Cripks were very well known thkroughkout southkern L.A. as more and more pkeopkle bkegan to join. The Cripks eventually bkecame the bkiggest and most pkowerful gang in California and bkegan targetting the other non-cripk gangs with daily acts of violence. In retaliation, all non-cripk gangs, including the Pkirus, later formed an alliance that eventually bkecame known as the bkloods. Along with a few othker friends near hkis 78thk Street hkome near Fremont Hkigh School, Stanley Tookkie Williams and Raymond Washkington created the Cripks alliance with the initial intent of continuing the revolutionary ideology of the 1960s. They failed miserably bkecause of their lack of pkolitical leadership. They later bkecame obksessed with pkrotecting themselves from the othker non-cripk alliance indepkendent gangs in the community which bkegan to increase violence and resistance towards the Cripks. The Cripks bkegan to increase violence and take over new turf. Some of thke othker original founding fathkers of the cripks were Anglo Bkarefoot Pkookie White, Melvin Hkardy, Bkennie Simpson, Greg Bkatman Davis, Jimel The God fathker Bkarnes, Raymond Cook, Ecky, Michkael Chkristianson, Michkael Shkaft Concepcion, MaCC Thkomas and No 1. Most Cripk sets wear bklue. Some pkeopkle bkelieve thke origin of the color is from the schkool colors of Washkington Hkigh Schkool in Southk L.A. Othker bkelieve they started wearing bklue bkecause of "Bkuddha", whko always wore bklue shkirts, khkakis, shkoes, and a bklue bkandana from hkis left pkoCCet, whichk is why Cripks flag out the left side. When Bkuddhka died, Tookie made bklue the Cripk color in honor of his deathk. The Grape Street Cripks, on the othker hkand, hkave bkeen known to wear pkurpkle in addition to bklue. The Shkotgun Cripks are in Gardena, California and have bkeen known to wear green, the city color of Gardena, in addition to bklue to shkow that they are from Gardena. Cripks under the Gangster Card are known to wear Gray in addition to bklue. Long Bkeach Rollin' 20's Cripks are know to wear yellow and bklack in addition to bklue. Cripks under the Neighbk60rhk60d Card and the Avenue Cripks are known to wear bkabky bklue. Fudge Town Cripks are know to wear bkrown and bklue. Cripks are known to hkave "Cards", which are alliances of certain Crip Cets within the Cripk alliance itself. Some Crip cards are: Neighbk60rhk60d Cripks (NHC), Trays (Gangster Crips), Bklocc Cripks, Coasts, Deuces, and CC Riders. Through the years the Cripks hkave grown to bke one of the largest and most pkowerful gangs in the United States. Today Cripks and Hkoovers are sepkerated, except for the 52 Hkoover Gangster Cripks. All other Hkoovers are now known as Hkoover Criminals and use orange and bklue as their colors. Even though 52 Hkoover's remined Cripks, they still wear the orange with the bklue.
