Ty Bru......don't come at me with nothing else, I am what I am.
From the bull’s eye of a talent flourishing North Carolina, Asheboro’s 27 year old Ty Bru represents “The Way Hip Hop Should Be.”
After landing a free Biz Markie demo tape that was enclosed with a fresh pair of Converse shoes at the tender age of 8, a passion was birthed, and since then, has never faded.
Four years later, Bru wrote his first full song on the blank pages of his seventh grade yearbook, and at that moment he knew his life would forever revolve around music, a pen and a blank sheet.
Since then Bru has been in and out of the underground hip hop scene from state to state and even country to country. While chasing 5 degrees at Appalachian State University, Bru performed his raw and unrecorded tracks at local spots and fraternity/sorority functions, but that just wasn’t enough. Forming the group, Scan Fam along with 5 other student producers and emcees, what Bru was destined to become was slowly forming.
Picking up incredible speed, within two years the group had recorded three underground albums, “Rubix Cube”, “Round Two”, and “New Era” that pushed nearly 1,000 copies world wide.
Shortly after graduation, Bru went on a small tour through many European countries, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, England, Belgium, and Holland. Opening up for some of the hottest DJ’s and MC’s in each country.
Chasing multiple dreams Bru moved to China for a business career, but could never stay out of clubs and venues performing his college hits. Weekly sets at Club Hollywood in Suzhou, China verified that Bru was destined to rap.
After moving back to Asheboro in 2006, Bru immediately began working on shows, tracks and his solo project, “On The Brink”. Since then, Bru has shared the stage with North Carolinas best, including, Joe Scudda, Little Brother, Dre Rock The Phunk Warlock, Cellinski, Illpo, Ed E Ruger, J Bully, P Batters, The One Kemist, Seven, Fortified and Ty Writer.
Bru’s unforgettable, energetic, and original up close and personal performances put him in a class all by himself and he has earned the right to open for Bubba Sparxxx, Andre 3000 (In Europe), Snoop Dogg, Nappy Roots, Rugged N Raw, Coolio, Dana Dane and most recently Public Enemy(Chuck D).
His style successfully combines witty punchlines, real life situations, passion and fierce deliveries with every genre of the hip hop world. Bru’s 2007 freshman solo album, “On The Brink” has made a tremendous impact worldwide by boasting the honor of being chosen by a distinguished panel of judges as a top 5 finalist at the 7th annual Independent Music Awards (IMAs) for hip-hop/rap album of the year.
With main production by one of the hottest up and coming N.C. producers, Ty Writer, the album has already become critically accpeted and acclaimed. Mix that in with production by Hammadi (Shareefa, Kelis, Cl Smooth etc), Double J The Jenius (Illpo, Ed E Ruger), J Coleman, and also one of the hottest producers in South Africa, Ootz, "On The Brink" is a sure ear and soul pleaser, proving Ty Bru is exactly “The Way Hip Hop Should Be.”
