Type Relevant is a trio of very talented musician/lyricists formulated to kill live performances each and every time out. They are an "improv" band, but at the end of the night you may never even notice. With an uncanny ability, Type Relevant structures live freestyles into thought provoking, meaningful songs with ease. "80 percent of our set is all on the fly, we have some material to fall back on if we need it throughout a set, but you will never see us play the same set twice" says drummer John Hunter(Type Nice) and guitar player/lyricist Brian Herlihy(Relevant).
The two began improvising in they're high school jazz band and even played a set @ The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio in 1999. Shortly after, Type Relevant formed as a duo. It should be noted that Relevant's usage of a custom made "B-Tar" (a guitar that has both guitar and bass guitar strings) makes the duo sound more like a trio. As of Oct. 2009, Type Relevant has played over 300 shows, solidifying themselves as a major player in Buffalo's live music scene. With the addition of lead vocalist/Lyricist Mamudu Kargbo (Mad Dukes) in 2007, they've evolved into an unstoppable force (Buffalo's best freestyle band + Buffalo's illest freestyle emcee). In 2009, Type Relevant won the Artvoice Boom (Battle Of Original Music) Competition which featured over 100 bands from all areas of Western New York. Type Relevant is Buffalo's premiere live Hip Hop act.
