Picking up guitar on a whim, at the ripe age of twenty, Wil 'Panda' Coffey immediately took to the art of song writing and within two and a half years was performing before live audiences. Classifying his music as “Soul Acoustic”, Panda’s style is truly rare in its compilation of Folk, Blues & Jazz with an unmistakable funk, making even popular cover tunes sound like original improvisations. Touring extensively around western North America for the previous eight years he has had the opportunity to play on the same stage with acts such as; Taj Mahal, CCR, The Wailers, Tuck & Patti, Michael Hedges, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, David Grisman Quintet and other accomplished performers.
Presently, Panda is residing in New Zealand . He is still performing near his home on the East Cape, the Coromandel and touring New Zealand regularly. A new CD is in the works...so stay tuned!
Wow, lol, I was thinking of all the wild rides we've had since 1985. Over Mt rose in the blizzard,(singer songwriter contest-Reno) New years to 1040 Ashbury in '88, (booming) etc.
Someday a road trip through New Zealand maybe.
