Tyrannosaurus Rock was started in the Spring of 2004 by a few friends at the University of Virginia. The organization's purpose is to support independent music and to place an emphasis on underground music that is passionate, creative, and deserving of more recognition in the community. Tyrannosaurus Rock sponsors shows with local and out of town performers in a variety of spaces, featuring experimental, punk, electronica, underground hip hop, independent rock, and folk artists (as well as other performers who probably don't fit any of those genres). Sometimes we sponsor screenings of music-related films and workshops or co-sponsor events with other organizations. We are part of the Progressive Network at the University of Virginia.
Anyone can join Tyrannosaurus Rock. Members are needed to come to meetings and share ideas, help organize, promote, and staff events, set up equipment, design fliers, and more.
The public is welcome at all events.
