Tyranny is a hard rock band out of Detroit. Their style is a combination of catching rhythms, technical melodies, and soulful, yet piercing vocals. With this, they have a sound of old school metal with a twist of new age rock.
The band was founded in 2000 by songwriter/guitarist Bill Kennedy. Bill started in music at an early age with many influences. Some of which were Motown Rock and metal. Bill has performed in numerous musical events, competitions, and bands. His unorthodox writing style and songwriting arrangements give the music of Tyranny that which the music industry yearns for.
While in the studio recording, Bill was joined by Eric Gibbons, former bass player for the band Powertrip, in mid 2001. Eric’s influences range from 70’s rock to heavy metal. His presence and enthusiasm electrified the bands live performances, which brought a new energy into the group.
In 2008 Tyranny added progressive drummer, Rob Barton. Rob is a powerhouse. He has been drumming most of his life, both in the studio and multiple projects for many years. Influenced primarily by the power of Alex Van Halen and the technicality of Dream Theater, Neal Peart, and John Bonham; his rock steady style rounds out this all-star line up. The music and performing is in his blood. He brings a deep, dark, heavy feel. He is a truly gifted player and simply loves to perform and entertain.
2009 Tyranny added Ben Scott to the family. An aggressive style singer that fit the bands aggressive style of music. Ben Scott, a musician for years, mostly influenced by the 90’s grunge movements, brings a metal edge with a commercial flair. From subtle and soft tones to vicious screams, Ben brings the best of both worlds.
