   About Tyson Ailshie

Tyson Ailshie has been performing and teaching music for over 12 years. In jazz performance, he has participated in live radio broadcasts and various studio recordings, performing with national jazz artists such as; Frank Mantooth, Ira Sullivan, Irvin Mayfield, Andrew D’Angelo, and Matt Wilson. As a freelance jazz artist, Tyson has been active in the Denver metro area jazz scene for the past five years performing with local jazz artists; Brad Goode, Paul Romaine, Dave Corbus, John Gunther, and Pat Bianchi as well as his co-led group, Blue Avenue. In addition, he has performed regularly at Denver’s high profile jazz venues such as critically acclaimed; Dazzle Restaurant and the D-Note.

As a seasoned performer, Tyson has sustained an innovative bass style and technique that is derived from the masters of double bass such as: Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Edgar Meyer, Eddie Gomez, and Christian McBride. His execution and facilitative mastery are driven by a rich, acoustic sound, melodic invention and creative, harmonic bass lines. Tyson is also a classically trained double bassist with advanced knowledge of string pedagogy and technique. He has performed with both the Topeka and Longmont Symphony Orchestras.

Tyson holds a Master's degree in jazz performance and pedagogy from the University of Colorado and a Bachelors degree in music from Washburn University. He is currently an instructor of music at both Arapahoe and Front Range Community Colleges where he teaches classes such as; Jazz History, Jazz Improvisation, Music Theory, and Music Appreciation. Tyson has lectured in jazz techniques at the University of Colorado, directed various master classes and guest conducted jazz ensembles at local area schools. In addition, he is a private instructor of double bass and bass guitar at Music and Arts and his private studio in Arvada.

Yep. I have two new bands of all original music going. The Goombahles which is mostly jam band grooves, and A Flock of Beagles which is more fusion stuff. I've finished writing music for a sax quintet the begins rehearsals in Feb. No name yet, maybe Conical Boar. At the moment I'm directing JEII at KU, and the Monday night band at KC,KS Com Coll. KC is an excellent place to be a creative instrumentalist at the moment.

Happy New Year!!! Thanks for the add. I love jazz, but for some reason jazz people tend to not like my stuff. Oh well, keep up the good work.
