tysonsmithmusic.com the official, unadulterated and brightly coloured Tyson Smith website is now up and running & is one way of killing a minute or two..
Tyson Smith is a guitarist, composer and singer originally hailing from the windswept headland of Manuka Bay, in New Zealand's South Island.
He began playing music at an early age, initially on his own hand-made polystyrene (stringless) guitars until he was given a real one at age 9.
After graduating from the Christchurch Jazz School (some years later) and having performed extensively throughout New Zealand in a variety of ensembles ranging from pseudo-flamenco duos to funk bands, Tyson decided it was time to invest in a cheap tuxedo and fly to New Orleans.
Over the next couple of years he could be found playing in show bands cruising the Caribbean and Mediterranean or soaking up influences in Cuba, Central America and New York City.
Tyson’s music reflects these and various other influences and is hard to pigeon hole as any one particular style. With blues, funk, jazz, rock and world music elements, his compositions act as vehicles for the interaction and improvisation of the musicians he gathers but also exist as songs that can be performed solo with an acoustic guitar.
He is currently based in Wellington and performs as guitarist for a range of artists including singer Hollie Smith as well as teaching guitar and finishing a debut album of original music that documents some songs written over the last few years in various locations. The allbum features some of New Zealand's most talented musicians including drummer Darren Mathiassen (Hollie Smith, Rhombus), keyboardist Jonathan Crayford & international jetsetter/bass player Johnny Lawrence and will be released later this year. Stay tuned for more info.

Well, I think thats a bit unfair as I'm Jamacian, just simply for the fact that I live in New Zealand. I thought Rastafari was the most common religion here, followed by Christianity, Judaism, and Vegetarianism.
Why thank you sir...always rockin' - you should know that! I have been having a very eclectic music month - everything from Iron Maiden to Cypress Hill to the World Music Festival in Adelaide in a week or so...mucho fun! Hope NZ is treating you well xxx
