The sixth release on U&A Recordings sees a debut from young antipodean hotshots, Hyperion (Oz). Blessed with a driving, chunky, techy style that sits perfectly astride the tech-funk axis of house, breaks, techno & electro, 'On the Expressway' is a white knuckle ride through the snaking highways of the city's backside, with bubbling synths & rolling layered grooves that never let up. A tough task for the remixers, but both General Midi & Zodiac Cartel prove more than capable of throwing down with the best of them, and in doing so continue to establish themselves as two of the finest remixers around.
Once again U&A has proved itself as one of the most exciting purveyors of fine electronic music out there, and DJ reactions have once again been outstanding, with key support coming from the likes of James Zabiela (Hearing Aid / Excession), Plump DJs (Finger Lickin'), Scott Kirkland (Crystal Method), Matt Dopamine (Title Fight), Jay Cunning (Kiss FM), Annie Nightingale (Radio One), Aston Shuffle (Ministry of Sound), Madox/Riva Starr (Mantra/Dirtybird), Justin Rushmore (Soul of Man), Janette Slack (Mixmag/Torture Garden), Meat Katie (Lot49), Luke Liam (Medicine 8), Froe (Breakfastaz), Andy D (Ministry Radio), Mike Wells (Force Mass Motion), Jesse Dessenberg (Kid Kenobi), Tony Tay (Zouk, Singapore), Anne Savage (Ministry Radio), Rich Belsom (Cubism), Zimbardo (Benchmarc!), Kosmas Epsilom, Chris Carter (Roxilla), Bassbin Twins, Introspective (Sinister) and many more ...
The fifth release on U&A Recordings sees a debut from red hot newcomer, Melbourne's Butter Party (aka Michael Davies). Sure to be a name on everyone's lips come the year's end, label boss Elite Force so smitten with the maturity of sound and the adroitness of this youngster's production work that he instantly snapped up these two tracks for the label, fitting perfectly in with the label's tech-funk ethos with a style that nods towards the likes of Miles Dyson, D Ramirez and Cirez D. On remix duty, and fresh from having a huge hit with their remix of Elite Force's 'Used & Abused' (which spent over 6 weeks in the Top 20 Electro House chart on Beatport shifting several thousand copies in the process), we welcome back the mighty Zodiac Cartel, with two exceptional, and very different remixes..... it's no surprise then that DJ Support has been overwhelming from (amongst others):
James Zabiela (Hearing Aid / Excession), Mark Knight (Toolroom), Dopamine (Title Fight / Definitive), Meat Katie (Lot49), Lee Mortimer (Sawtooth Sucka / Wearhouse Music), Tom Real (Fakt), Madox (Mantra), Nick Thayer (Breaking Point / Triple RRR), Nick Slater (Drummatic Twins), F.E.X. / Robotronic, Andy D (MOS Radio), Ralph Balk [DJ Broadcast Magazine (Breaks Reviews)], Mark Bates [Kai 1 / IDJ Magazine (Techno Reviews)], Satoshi Tomile (Saw), Fedde Le Grand, Tom Stephan (Superchumbo), Miles Dyson (Plasmapool), Aston Shuffle, Zimbardo (Benchmarc!), Tony Manc (Ministry of Sound / Data), Scott Kirkland (The Crystal Method), Dylan Rhymes (Lot 49), Mihai Popoviciu (Gigolo/Size Doesn't Matter), Anderson Noise (Noise Music - Brazil), Denis Karimani (Remute), Riva Star (Frontroom/Dirtybird), Rick Grant (Fabric Beats), Alland Byallo (Liebe Detail, Floppy Funk, Dirtybird), Kid Blue (Fat!/Lot 49), Kevin (Fine Cut Bodies, Hungary), Lee Coombs (Thrust / Lot49), Miles Dyson (Plasmapool), Tom Stephan (Superchumbo / ChumboMundo), Andrea Lai (Agatha, Roma), Nils Lausund (Nils Noa / Lot49), Rob Savage (Groove Diggerz/Breakin Even) .... etc ....!!
A brand new digital firebrand, run by Simon Shackleton (aka Elite Force),
U&A (formerly known as Used & Abused) is dedicated to the all-encompassing sound of Tech-Funk which means House : Electro : Breaks : Techno and all points in between.
The main focus of the label is the release of material by tech-funk don Elite Force, and releases in the first few months saw not only the re-release of the highly acclaimed Modern:Primitive album. but also a number of singles taken from the album, including "You" [UAA001] (with remixes from Hybrid, Double Black & Perc), "Return2Mindfunk" [UAA002] (with mixes from Vandal, Blende and Double Black) and "Used & Abused"[UAA004] (with mixes from Zodiac Cartel, Speculum and Klaus Hill & Dopamine). In between these singles, newcomers from Leeds, Speculum also came correct with their debut for the label, "Nympho" [UAA003] (with remixes from Elite Force & Mowgli).
2008 has started in fine style with the the debut release from bright young antipodean things, Butter Party, who deliver a cracking double-header on UAA005 reminiscent of the likes of Miles Dyson, John Dahlback & Cirez D at their gritty best, and backed by 2 stellar remixes from the mighty Zodiac Cartel. Next up on 31st March is the release of another antipodean debut, this time from Hyperion (Oz) who are currently gaining massive plaudits from a huge range of DJs for their "On the Expressway" single, featuring remixes from General Midi and in-house fave, Zodiac Cartel. More info on the blog pages .....
2008 will also see a major remix project titled REVISION under way which will see all of the Elite Force back catalogue that originally appeared on labels such as Fused & Bruised, Whole9Yards, Adrift and Kingsize all finally re-appearing, with many of the tracks given fresh remixes and makeovers from some of the scene's leading lights, and brightest newcomers. the first release in the series will be Melodik Hypnotik complete with massive remixes from both Miles Dyson and Riva Starr as well as the release of the previously unavailable '05 re-rub from Elite Force himself.
