Le Manager est un intermédiaire professionnel entre les artistes et les différents acteurs de l'industrie musicale. Son rôle est de conseiller les artistes afin de les aider à gérer et développer leur carrière artistique ; La première tâche d'un manager est de protéger et défendre en toutes circonstances les intérêts artistiques, moraux et financiers des artistes qu'il représente.
Les services du manager concernent notamment :
a) l'orientation artistique de leur carrière (choix de répertoire, définition de l' image…)
b) la promotion de leurs prestations, de leurs enregistrements, et des produits dérivés les concernant, en relations avec leurs partenaires (éditeur, producteurs phonographiques, promoteurs, organisateurs de spectacles...)
c) la négociation des conditions financières dans lesquelles leurs prestations sont exploités.
