Shane Hollands:
Shane Hollands is one of New Zealand’s premier performance poets and the founding Creative Director of The Literatti. He has developed his extraordinary style over 20 years and has a distinctive contempory take on traditional BeatSpeak.
He has performed extensively around Auckland and throughout New Zealand, delivering his unique Jazz Prose to delighted audiences.
After performing solo for many years at Poetry Live, Shane moved onto ‘Open Mike’ sessions at live music and comedy venues around Auckland till eventually meating up with the members of Freaky Meat at The Jazz Bar and beginning work on developing BeatSpeak & experiments in sound and poetry. Shane went on to form Beautiful Losers to music industry & critical acclaim.
Shane presently works as Überloser (with selected guest musicians) and with The Literatti.

Allot of how I sound depends of course on the musicians I am playing with (though I play a little hamonica and Didge, I wouldn't class myself as a musician) but I practice a performance style often reffered to as 'Beat' which involves following the natural beats that occur in a piece of music. I really love music and came from a musical family so i have been surrounded by music and musicians as long as i can remember.
I first started working with music and poetry when I formed/joined 'Freaky Meat' in 2002. Freaky Meat still perform legendary one off shows *& are working on their first full-length cd*. It was a magical moment for me. I had gone to 'The Jazz Bar' to an open mike night to practice poetry for a book i had co-written with my friends Siän and Anneliese and was asked back onto the stage by this cool jazz band who didn't have a singer... give the boy a mike! and then all that shit started :)
I have also worked with Paul Williams as "The Beautiful Losers'
and with musicians such as Darcy Gladwin from 'Emu' & 'Cure Motel'
I sometimes plays the 'strap on' sinth in Cure Motel.
I mainly started this myspace for my friends I have met playing and am close friends with everyone on my 'top friends'. I am working on a film with my friend Darcy (EMU) about elephants...
