Seit der Gründung im Juni 1995 durchliefen 47 Musiker die Band, die sich Anfang 2009 entschloss sich vom Namen King Banana zu trennen. Mit dem einstieg des Sängers U-cee im Jahr 2004 und den Veränderungen der Band in jeglicher Hinsicht, entwickelte sich der Sound vom Ska & Rocksteady hin zum Reggae & Dancehall mit Einflüssen aus Soul und dem breiten Spektrum der jamaikanischen Musik. Die Aufnahmen zum Royal Family Album im Jahr 2006 (Produziert von David Meyer/Silly Walks Movement aus Hamburg) leiteten bereits ein neues Kapitel der Bandgeschichte ein, die letztendlich die Namensänderung ergab. Durch ihre 8-köpfige Besetzung gelingt es U-cee & The Royal Family immer wieder das Publikum mit Ihrem einzigartigen und unverwechselbaren Reggae- und Dancehallsound zu fesseln. Angefangen vom 60's Ska über Rocksteady und Roots Reggae bis hin zum Dancehall durchlebte die Band auf über 350 Konzerten in 6 Ländern den Vibe der karibischen Insel und spielten u. a. mit Künstlern wie Dr. Ring Ding, The Pioneers, Alton Ellis, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, Toots & The Maytals, Macka B, Yellow Man, Michael Rose, Alborosie und Eeka Mouse. Ihre Reisen führten sie schon zweimal auf eines der größten Ska-Festivals Europas (Lindenpark/ Potsdam 2002/2003) und auf das Chiemsee Reggae Festival (in Übersee 2003). Als einer ihrer bisherigen Höhepunkte gestaltete sich die Zusammenarbeit mit dem „Chief Architect of Reggae“, Stranger Cole. In den Jahren 2002/2003 begleitete Sie diesen, durch Nr. 1 Hits wie Bangarang, Rough & Tough, When You Call My Name oder Run Joe bekannten, großartigen Sänger bei seinen ersten Auftritten in Deutschland, Österreich, Italien, Dänemark und der Schweiz. Daraus entwickelte sich nicht nur eine enge Freundschaft, sondern auch ein Longplayer („Dramatic“) mit 13 Songs, der im Frühjahr 2003 auf Apostel Rec. Veröffentlicht wurde. Auf dem Album sind auch einige neu komponierte und unveröffentlichte Songs zu finden. 2004 holten Sie den ehemaligen Sänger der Gruppe „The Eternals“ – Ken Bob für einige Konzerte nach Europa, der ebenfalls auf dem letzten Album der „African Brothers“ (Sugar Minott, Derick Howard, Tony Tuff) mit seinen souligen, mehrstimmigen Harmoniegesängen vertreten ist. Die Band veröffentlichte bisher 2 Singles und 5 Alben. Derzeit arbeitet U-cee & The Royal Family an neuem Songmaterial für das in 2011 erscheinende Album. ... ... ... The eight man line-up of U-cee & The Royal Family engrosses their audiences wherever they go with their unique and utterly distinctive reggae and dancehall sound. Having begun with 60s ska about rocksteady to roots reggae and dancehall, the band played the vibes of the Caribbean island hall at some 350 concerts in 6 countries, their style and direction mutating from rocksteady to roots reggae and dancehall while appearing with the likes of artists such as Dr. Ring Ding, The Pioneers, Alton Ellis, New York Ska Jazz Ensemble, Toots & The Maytals, Macka B, Yellow Man, Michael Rose, Alborosie and Eeka Mouse. On tour they appeared twice at one of Europe’s largest ska festivals (Lindenpark/ Potsdam 2002/2003) and at the Chiemsee Reggae Festival (in Übersee 2003). One of their most memorable highlights proved to be their collaboration with the “Chief Architect of Reggae”, Stranger Cole. When, in 2002/2003 this renowned and amazing singer made his first appearances in Germany, Austria, Italy, Denmark and Switzerland, they were the back-up band in his No. 1 hits such as “Bangarang” , “Rough & Tough” , “When You Call My Name” and “Run Joe”. The collaboration not only produced a close friendship, but also the long-player “Dramatic” with 13 tracks brought out by Apostel Rec. in the spring of 2003. The album includes several new compositions and unpublished songs. In 2004, the band invited Ken Bob, ex-singer of the group “The Eternals”, to Europe for a few concerts. He also appeared on the “African Brothers” (Sugar Minott, Derick Howard and Tony Tuff) album with its soulful, multi-voice harmonies. The band has released two singles and five albums up until now.
