Uganda Benefit '06: parlo di me |
Chi sono:
The vision for this benefit show began while we were on a missions trip in Bolivia with Helping Hands Missions and were told that this particular orphanage in Uganda was about to run out of funding at the end of May.
We also learned that $20,000 would meet over 200 kids' needs for over 3 years. That number is staggering!
Over 85% of the kids at this orphanage have the AIDS virus.
In more recent news...a few weeks ago, the pastor, Moses Barasa, who founded this school/orphanage had a devastating fire at his house. It destroyed everything from his personal belongings to all the school books for the children. They had been working for years to provide the children with books, and in one night everything was lost.
The need is much greater now than we originally anticipated. GET INVOLVED! Help those
in need...
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to
look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself
from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
Here is some information taken from the Helping Hands Missions website about the Orphanage in Uganda that we are raising money for:
Orphanage Ministry
Busia, Uganda is a poverty-stricken town located on the border of
Kenya. Brother Moses Barasa, an Africa pastor, works faithfully sharing
the gospel and then discipling new believers. We have participated in
mission trips to this area for 4 years, and from evangelistic work
done, the current church is now over-flowing, and services are being
held outdoors. The people of Uganda earn less than one dollar per day.
The Orphanage
The Aids epidemic in Africa has devastated families. Thousands of
children have been left orphans. Some of these may be lucky enough to
have a grandmother, aunt, uncle, or family member who tries to take
care of them. But many times, it is difficult for parents to feed and
clothe their own children. Therefore, many of the kids live on the
streets, finding food wherever they can. Pastor Moses Barasa did not
wait for an orphanage. He has been taking care of orphans for several
years now and started a school for them. There are about 250 kids now
who attend "Busia Calvary Orphan Center and School." He and his church
members feed them one meal daily, and they try to find a home for each
one to live in.
Helping Hands sends monthly support for the children, to help with
food, school supplies, and general funds for the school.
As of April, 2005, we are raising money to purchase desks/chairs for
the students as most of them currently sit on mats on the ground. This
is estimated at $2500. We also would like to purchase shoes and
uniforms for each child, estimated at $2500. Our plan is to establish a
yearly budget yearly for the school, so we can provide better food for
the children, and also improve the quality of education.
Helping Hands also provide yearly medical check-ups for each child.
