   About UHF
In the early 1980s, Ric (Guitar), Brad (Drums), and Bob (Vocals) met while attending school and formed a band that played around school at several events with Kenny Minster (later of Smart Bomb) on Bass and Gary Fuller (later of Slider) on lead guitar.
In 1985, Ric was introduced to Rachelle and joined her band playing bass. When that band broke up in 1986, Ric and Bob came up with the concept of the band, UHF, with Ric again playing guitar and Bob now on bass. They purchased a drum machine, and prepared four songs for the studio. Rachelle was asked to play keyboards and provide backing vocals. In April, 1986, the three went into AudioVisions studio in Linden, Utah, and recorded the four songs set forth here.
Putting together a live band proved to be more difficult, however. After a couple of months trying out a number of drummers, the trio eventually put the project on hold. Rachelle did some solo work, while Ric and Bob continued to practice to write and practice.
In the summer of 1986, they again ran into Brad, who had recently relocated from Las Vegas to Utah, after he and Kenny Minster had left Smart Bomb. The got together one night just to jam, and they just clicked. Brad introduced them to Jon and UHF became a live band. They first played out in November of 1986, and by January of 1987, had representation (Cover Agency) and were headlining the prestigious Zephyr Club.
The band also enjoyed airplay on a number of radio stations, including X-96 and KBER. In addition to promoting the band on the air, DJ Ray Weaver became friends with the band and ran their sound at live gigs. As 1987 progressed, the band decided to expand in order to achieve a fuller, more lush sound,as well as broaden their ability to cover certain popular modern music artists. Rachelle was invited to join the band and made her debut that summer when the band played at Raging Waters in Salt Lake City.
Through the fall of 1987, UHF returned to AudioVisions to record two more tracks, received airplay, and continued to play gigs. By the end of the year, however, various internal and external musical forces became too difficult to overcome and UHF disbanded and, while the break-up was difficult in many respects, the members went their respective ways on generally amicable terms. Both Jon and Rachelle went on to produce solo efforts, while Brad, Bob, and Ric ultimately reformed, initially as Black on Black with Gary Fuller on lead guitar, and then, after Gary left the band for law school, Ric, Bob, and Brad went three-piece as the highly successful alt-metal band, Drool.
Later, as the Drool era was winding down, Ric and Bob went on to form Psonic Prophet with former True Silence drummer, Spence Dean. Later still, Bob and Brad joined friend and long-time guitarist for The Change, Steve, and formed NumbSkull, who are still playing great punk/rock in Salt Lake City today.
