Nothing you heard before
Driemansformatie De Uitverkorenen, bestaande uit Slimme vogel, Lucifer en Jasperlanus, zijn allen geboren te Amsterdam en sinds de lagere school met elkaar bevriend. Geinspireerd door Soul, Funk, Disco, Reggae en Hip Hop zijn zij lang geleden hun eigen teksten gaan schrijven. De eerste muziek werd gemaakt met behulp van een keyboard en drumcomputer, welke later door wat meer professionele apparatuur werden vervangen om alles nog beter te laten klinken. In de tussentijd bouwden de bandleden een behoorlijke verzameling van oude platen op. In deze vinyl verzameling zaten veel platen uit de jaren 66 t/m 78 en oud Hollandse titels. Door veel samples te gebruiken uit deze verzameling, creëerden de Uitverkorenen een eigen unieke sound.
Na een behoorlijk aantal nummers te hebben gecreëerd, besloten de bandleden op een 'magische' avond een demo in elkaar te zetten. Voor deze demo was natuurlijk ook een bandnaam nodig en die avond was de band 'De Uitverkorenen' geboren.
Deze demo werd als eerste naar het platenlabel Djax Records gestuurd, dat direkt geinteresseerd was. Het album 'Van Wieg tot Graf' kwam echter, na veel perfectioneren, pas vijf jaar later uit.
Het ging meteen goed. De Uitverkorenen werden onder andere een aantal keer uitgenodigd door de VPRO voor interviews en radio-optredens. Bij deze omroep werd hun eerste album zelfs uitgeroepen tot beste CD van de week!
Aangezien echte muzikanten niet stilzitten werd er stug doorgewerkt aan nieuwe nummers. In de tussentijd had het bevriende Osdorp Posse hun eigen label Ramp Records opgericht. Het eerste echte album dat dit label uitbracht, was 'Subwoefers' van de Onderhonden, een samenwerkingsproject van verscheidene Nederhop artiesten, die hun naam al reeds hadden verworven in de scene. Aangezien bijna alle nummers waren vertegenwoordigd door de artiesten Def P, Casto, Remon (8 mm) en LocoMotief, hebben de Uitverkorenen meegewerkt aan het nummer 'Voet aan de Grond'. Doordat de samenwerking met Ramp Records uitermate goed verliep en hun platencontract met Djax Records het einde naderde, besloot de groep hun volgende album bij Ramp Records uit te laten brengen.
Ondertussen is dit nieuwe album getiteld 'Kruistocht door de Ruimte' klaar en zal het in September 2001 officieel gereleased worden. Dit keer wordt er bij dit album tevens een single gereleased, getiteld 'Klusjesman'. Voor deze single is ook een videoclip gemaakt. Met de release van hun tweede album is ook hun internetsite www.uitverkorenen.nl gelanceerd, waarop veel bandinformatie te vinden is. De Uitverkorenen zullen ter promotie van nieuwe album veel gaan optreden in het voorprogramma van de Osdorp Posse en Def P & the Beatbusters en natuurlijk ook op eigen gelegenheid. De Uitverkorenen (translation: the chosen ones) are three young rappers who are born in Amsterdam. They attended the same school, two of the band members are brothers and the other one is a friend to both. The oldest member, Slimme Vogel, started in 1985 with his first Dutch Rap demo called " de vuurspuwende draak" (translation: the fire breathing dragon) All three were inspired by Funk, Soul, Disco, Reggae and ofcourse the early Hip hop. The first beats were just simple, a roland drumcomputer and a casio S35 wich could take a sample of 4 secs. They had to spin the record like crazy to get a loop correctly running. They started writing lyrics and recorded them on tape, wich was often released at a friends house where everybody gathered before they went out.
These guys are really pioniers!!! They were there right at the start of it all (that is the ducth hip hop scene ofcourse) In the meantime these guys collected almost every record that had been sampled at that time, so they have an huge record collection.
From Funk to rare groove to really rare stuff like, Pierre Henry or Cecil Leuter, Silver Apples and loads of others, these guys have it all. This record collection contains mostly records from the period between 1966 and 1978 and also contains very rare Dutch albums. This and the use of children's records (like kids tv.programs from the early days) has given them a unique sound. They are known for their use of samples because they are true diggers!!!
After a while they had produced enough tracks to make a demo and send it to a record company, wich they did. That night when they also came up with their name.
The demo was sent to DJAX records- Eindhoven who immediatley offered them a deal for 5 years. When the first album came out it was a hit. 2000 copies sold in one week, for that time that was big.
The VPRO (television and radio broadcasting company) went crazy for their album an made it " Hottest new album of the week" One of the tracks from that first album was addapted in the top 2000 in the year 2000.
After a while they switched record companies, RAMP was now in the picture.
They made their second album there and toured with Def-P and the beatbusters all across Holland, played every major club or hall.
