The music you are hearing was recorded LIVE at performances at Analogue Haven (www.AnalogueHaven.com), in Pomona, California on July 14th 2007 and also at Pitzer College, Claremont, California, on July 20th 2007.
IN THE BEGINNING:
UKAB MAERD was created by the founding members of Djam Karet: Chuck Oken, jr. and Gayle Ellett. Their goal is to compose and peform new Progressive Electronic music. Using a host of analog, modular (patch-cord type) and digital synthesizers, signal processors and effects, altered electric guitar, and acoustic instruments such as dilruba, Greek bouzouki, and gopichand, UKAB MAERD makes mind music that blends both modern styles and traditional European Electronic music from the 1970's.
UKAB MAERD masksbackwards to BAKU DREAM and is a reference to the Djam Karet's 2003 album A NIGHT FOR BAKU. The Baku are spirits of the dream world who are devourers of evil dreams and nightmares. The music of UKAB MAERD represents what the Baku dream after spending elastic time in the twilight zone.
Currently, Ukab Maerd are working on a NEW studio CD, due for release in early 2010. This CD will be filled with the gritty sounds of old analog oscillators, wailing guitars, ethnic instruments, and mangled nightmares!
"The Immersion Festival", featuring Steve Roach, Djam Karet, and Loren Nerell is happening on October 17th 2009, from 4pm to Midnite, at the Da Center in Pomona, California.
This is a FREE show, and is a one-of-a-kind event. An eight-hour interactive melding of musical tribes in celebration of sound and music, art and visuals, emerging from the moment in a unique relaxed space. The Immersion Festival will be presented as an environment of continuous sound worlds and interwoven musical performances.
The Da Center For The Arts is located in Pomona, just a half-hour drive outside of Los Angeles.
