Sounds Like
"The purpose of the artist is to create the work - not judge it' - Tom Robinson.
Formed in 2002 by Carl Chamberlain, eden (and the lower case 'e' is intentional) was a labour of love for Carl and his fellow members, who were all not only experienced musicians, but were also friends of many years standing. This was a chance to do something different and to go out on a wire with little or no pandering to commercial viability: it came from the heart and there was no compromising with regard to the fact that many of the songs were dark or challenging. Nonetheless, there remains a strong undercurrent of humanity, and even a thread of dark humour.
'Beautiful', 'Wishing you Down' and 'Temporary Thing' are from the 2003 album 'Beautiful' and 'Sad About Us' was one of the later eden songs. The version presented here features the lovely and talented Julie Staines and the wonderous Si Genaro on harmonica.
Although the band are not currently performing live, Carl is still writing and recording and there may be at least a new album in the offing and the prospect of of some live performances is the not-too-distant future.
'Beautiful ... stands as a fine example of the rejuvinating powers of creativity....captures a mature alt-rock sound on the edge of danger and despair..' (Nick Churchill)
‘These are songs that have come from deep inside the soul, like cigarette smoke in still air – very mature, very adult and very, very good…lyrical and thoughtful songwriting… and I can now state they sound superb live’
(Ian Peterson – Live Wire April 2002)
