This is the official page of the Murray Jam UK [2008 edition] and its gonna be amazing, bigger and better than last year!. The venue is Alianos Trails which everyone knows are normally on an invite only basis, but for one day only [Saturday Aug 30th, 2008], these trails will be open to anyone and everyone. This is the place where Stephen first started to ride trails over 10 years ago and are considered to be one of the top trail spots in the UK.
Please look for updates and keep checking this page for information. The whole BMX community needs to come together for this jam, for such a worthy cause. Every penny raised will go directly into the Stephen Murray Family Fund. So, what you waiting for? Stephen Murray is a BMX Athlete that could use help from the BMX community. Stephen is a professional dirt jumper that is well known for his amazing tricks like double back flips, 360 back flips, turndown back flips and so much more.
Stephen Murray came to the United States from New Castle Great Britain over 10 years ago with a dream of riding with the best athletes in the sport. He came over here originally as a BMX racer but quickly took to Dirt Jumping and Freestyle in the scene of Huntington Beach and Sheep Hills.
2001 and 2002 marked the biggest year for Stephen Murray of his career. He won the Gold Medal in Dirt Jumping at X Games and back to back wins at the Gravity Games, the two biggest contests at the time.
Stephen is quoted on his own riding style, “I go 110%, go big and send it!” (EXPN.com)
On Friday June 22nd at the AST Dew Tour BMX Dirt Finals in Baltimore, MD, Stephen Murray took a horrific fall on the final set of the dirt section while sending a double back flip. Stephen has received career ending injuries to his spinal cord and vertebrae.
Unlike the NFL or other major professional sports which have unions that provide funds to athletes who are injured, BMX has nothing like this. BMX however is much more like a family than any other sport. Now is the time we need to reach out and support one of our family members like never before.
The injuries that Stephen sustained are no doubt going to affect him for a life time. Medical bills alone can reach astronomical dollar amounts. As a BMX community we have the power to help him. Stephen is a young 27 years old and is the financial provider for a wife and two young children.
This message has the potential to reach millions. Even if you are only able to donate $1 if we did it all together we can accomplish a great deal. This is for real, this is an opportunity to help out one of the most loved riders in our sport. Directions!!!!
For the trails -
From soth on the M5 -
1) - Exit at junction 8 (signposted M50)
2) - Go on the M50 for 1 junction
3) - Follow signs for 3 counties showground and Upton upon severn
4) - Travel down the A38 for approx 2 miles
5) - Turn left towards upton
6) - After bridge turn left at roundabout
7) - Continue through the town
8) - Turn left 200 yards after hill climb (Monsell lane)
9) - Then turn right onto yewleigh lane
10) - Follow signs to Alianos
From north on the M5 -
- Exit at junction 7 and turn right at roundabout
- 200 yards to next roundabout, turn left
- straight over next roundabout
- left at the Ketch roundabout (signposted Kempsey)
- follow A38 for approx 10 miles
- turn right, signposted upton upon severn
- follow instructions from 6) above
From worcester city centre, follow signs to Kempsey (A38), then Upton upon severn
The Trails Jam was awesome totally enjoyed it. We have a bmx & mtb jam going on at Redditch this Sunday where we will be taking donations for the Stephen Murray Family Fund!
Can't wait for the jam.. I am packing my supersoaker and a fat jug of potteen for old times sakes right now. Cornish jam plans well underway. Also was trying to organise a naked bmx jam with some young buff male lovelies (I'd be judging obviously), but nobody seems 'up' for it. Youth of today... No class. xxx
