In a country where digital dub has ruled the roost for the past decade, 'I&I ONENESS and the UK PLAYERS' are a breath of fresh air. Very much a live band, 'I&I Oneness & UK Players ' have been moving in combination from the summer of '97, clocking up over 200 gigs to date and releasing the successful debut 7'' single 'FURTHER' ( Jah Works ) and album 'Take Heed' (RRR)
TAKE HEED - Album summary
'Take Heed' was produced, engineered and mixed by 'REJ FORTE' at Seventh Sense Studio. [ JAH WORKS ] It is a unique album in that it was recorded entirely on 8-track analogue equipment using no computers, sequencers or drum machines. It captures the live sound of the 'UK PLAYERS' using old skool recording techniques.The LP opens up with a dub instrumental called 'JAH LIGHT' and instantly the listener is transported to the studio as if they where there when the recording was taking place... its that close. This track has been compared to the sound of 'Portishead' meets 'Abashanti'. 'DUB LIGHT' is an exercise in revealing rhythm with crying keyboards and the African drum pushed to the fore. 'UPFULL ITES' features the vocal talents of 'IDREN NATURAL' and is a live favourite amongst the crowd. 'UPFULL DUB' cascades in echoes and flying rimshot effects with snatches of vocal enveloping the listener.'GIVE THANKS' is the first vocal offering from 'RAS IYAH' since his work with the 'Shanti-Ites' on 'Rasta Soul Jah' (Falasha) and it captures 'Ras lyah's' voice to the fullness.'DUB PRAISE' is a deep meditational drum and bass workout, reaching a spine tingling finale of hard reverb chops echoing emotion and climaxing in a crescendo you have to hear to believe. 'HURRICAINE' is another instrumental that builds to a full on whirlwind of activity, finally demolishing everything in its wake and moving on. 'PUSH I OVER' is another vocal cut featuring 'I Natural' and is a UK Players version of the original as featured on 'Dread Lion inc.: Unity is strength' (Brooklyn Records). 'PUSH I DUB' (has along with the vocal cut) been caned on dubplate by sound systems across thecountry. Instantly danceable and sonically brainmashing (the last bars of this dub alone could bring down Babylon!). 'MORE WARRIOR' is a new version of the 'Ras lyah' classic with a fresh hard-step rhythm by the 'UK Players'. 'MORE DUB' expands on the
