Band History
The origins of First of the Stygian date back to 2003 when, tired of playing other people's material, founder member Tyrone Leigh Williams began writing the music for an, as yet, unfinished concept album. The storyline of this concept album tells the tale of a being known as the First of the Stygian. However, unable to find the right musicians for the project, First of the Stygian did not actually come into existence as a fully fledged band until 2006, when guitarist Dave W. Preston auditioned for a band Tyrone was working with called Viperstrike.
It quickly became apparent that Dave was a guitarist perfectly suited to the style of music that was part of the First of the Stygian project. The more mainstream material being played by Viperstrike was soon shelved to make way for First of the Stygian at the start of 2007.
Shortly after bringing Dave on board the First of the Stygian project, Tyrone met up with former Viperstrike guitarist Trefor Farrimond. This meeting resulted in the audition of bassist James MacDonald and the core of the band was set. A string of guitarists and drummers auditioned for the band between 2007 and the start of 2008 but with no success. Unwilling to compromise on their music just to achieve success, the trio continued with their work and throughout the course of 2008 the band recorded their debut EP.
Without the necessary funds to release the EP to the market, the music was aired right here on the myspace site until recently. In 2009, some of the EP songs were removed and the first recording for the debut album was aired on the site.
