In order from most specific to general: Village bands of Ukraine early 20th century; Ukrainian village bands of today; Ukrainian folk, pop and wedding music; Eastern European folk, pop and wedding music; World music; music of all sorts! And art! And people! I pyvo, horylka, salo, i kokhannja!
The Ukrainian Village Band (aka "Hurt Seljukiv"!) has a repertoire of mostly Ukrainian folk music with some Rusyn and other Central European tunes in the mix. We play some of our tunes in an authentic style, others in what one might call a "Euro-Cafe" style. Formed in 2006 for the Minneapolis-St Paul Ukrainian Heritage Festival, we've been growing ever since. Two of us have Ukrainian roots and have lived in and/or traveled to Ukraine numerous times, and one of us grew up in Ukraine. The rest of us are smitten by Ukrainian music (i pyvo i horilka). One can always find people dancing wherever we play. Come waltz and polka with us, or learn from us how to do the traditional village and courtroom dances to such tunes as Hopak, Arkan, Hutsulka/Kolomyjka, Kartoplja, Orlytsja, Karapet, Ojra and more!
