An unusual background

An answer to the popular question "I can't quite place your accent!?" I have been around chassidic yiddish speakers for many teenage years... my jewish side. I have family in the US, UK... all over! A jigsaw of memories of which I was always told to be discreet...until recently! Differences and similarities have all taken their toll. My accent, I presume, is a mixed Multi Cultural Fusion that strangely often depends on who I have been around! I am Someone who has always lived outside society, not really feeling at home with its structured annoyances and its closed minded, brain washed inhabitants and sheeple. I often try to get along, but don't always like it!

NATIVE AMERICAN---the other side of the coin

Due to the sudden death of my father and my mother coming down with cancer, that jigsaw puzzle has been finished. Many skeletons have come out to play and finally I have had the answers to so many questions. Through loss there can be positives. I have found a new family with new ways also new dance after back and forth to Arizona USA, the Dine or Navajo...along with the Hopi Pueblo, yep, a long complicated story!!!! I will not go into here. But As I have always felt naturally pagan, even with a Jewish past, it seems 'Tribal' has taken on a new and beautiful form!! one I am very comfortable with. My truth is found and finally laid bare in a sad but surprising manner. Because of new learning, and my sacred traditions, where there is darkness let there also be light. Because of this, I am now also specialising in new dance classes, Tribal Fusion with Native American, along side the darker dance forms, for more info see below.

Fetish Performer

Mistress Olivia won UK fetish performer of the year 2005. She has been experienced in the heart of the fetish world for approx 18 years in different countries. Her stage performances at clubs such as Torture Garden and Skin 2 to name a few, have made her a well known face in this world. Now, pushing the boundaries of performance further, a fusion of extremes that mix hypnotic, skilled, exotic, erotic and beautiful dance with a darker than dark imagination and often imagery needing a strong stomach, often including controversial subjects.

Alternative Magazine

Rebecca/Olivia was one of the 3 founders of Alternative magazine. A publication about alternative/underground sub cultures in London and now the whole of the UK. The magazine celebrates all that is 'different' to the usual commercial and 'normalised' lifestyles. From club and band listings, music reviews, dance, film, bands, fetish, goth, pagan, art, trance, retro, body mod, burlesque and more... The magazine is also a voice and guide to connect with events taking place within the 'Alternative' world. Olivia has a large input with the features, growth and direction of Alternative magazine.

Tribal is Belly dance with attitude! Private lessons available. Specialist performance workshops and classes in 'darker' industrial styles of Tribal Belly Dance and also Tribal fusion with Native American dance.

Olivia/Rebecca, has danced most of her life, studying many different dance styles such as US Harlem blues,1920's-40's swing dance. She has a background in Roma/Gypsy dance and Eygptian /cabaret style where she found out and learnt about Tribal belly dance. Tribal felt so natural, she knew she had to learn more. With family already in San Francisco, Olivia traveled to the US to become The first person in the UK to attain technical certification in ATS. with Carolena Nericcio of Fat Chance Belly dance, the creator of American Tribal belly dance. She then continued to travel and learn with many big names in the US Tribal Fusion world... . Due to the frustration of not having many classes in ATS or Tribal fusion in London at the time, Olivia decided to teach to keep her own dance practice going whilst sharing her passion for tribal with others. She has also taught Turkish and eastern European Gypsy/Romani dance along with a love of Klezmer music. Another personal love of swing/blues dance can also be found in her Tribal fusion, her prominent 'darker side' enjoys Gothic, punk, industrial and more 'unusual/alternative' tastes at her heart, whilst tradition and culture follow the route of Native North American dance.

NATIVE AMERICAN DANCE--------------------------------------------------------------- Not so well known in the UK is the dance of the many indigenous tribes of North America. Also known as American Indians for those born before the 1950's, the less PC name. There are so many types of traditional and newer dances from the Northern to Southern US Planes to the South west, East, Intertribal Pow Wows, Mexico, Canada etc. Some examples of these include Ceremonial, Veteran, War dance, grass dancing, fancy shawl, Round dancing, Ladies buck skin..... Learning to fuse together foot work, dance movement, different types of Native percussive Beat from rattle or drum and song or vocables as one, is in itself, a tradition, skill and art passed down and learnt orally from generation to generation. Harmonics are not usually part of the music, with the exception of the flute. The dancer and musicians should indeed be 'one'. I teach how to bring together various elements of different types of Native American dances and music with their history and background into the Tribal Fusion world without disrespecting what is held sacred to any tribe.

American tribal style, Known as ATS, is a fusion of many styles of dance from India, spanish flamenco, Turkey, Africa, Eygptian belly dance and more. The dancers work in a group that follows a set format, but shares a vocabulary of moves in an improvisational way. By using a set of cues undistinguishable to the audience, the group follows a lead to create a powerful, graceful dance that touches body and spirit, tradition and innovation. A solo dancers choreographed version of ATS has also evolved called Tribal Fusion, it uses ATS moves and posture fused with the individuals own style and interpretation. Tribal can be mixed with burlesque, goth, jazz, hip hop and more without loosing its Tribal belly dance look and attitude. This alchemaic meeting of mind and movement has been called 'hypnotic', 'spell binding','beautiful to watch' with the transition between each move seamless and graceful,the embodiment of feminine energy and power. American tribal dancers adopt very different costuming to the coin belt belly dancers commonly known. Tribal dress can range from antique jewelry, hair falls, pantaloons and full skirts, cowrie shells to belly dance pieces normally customised to suit the individuals 'tribal' image.
