Aloha! To begin with the obvious, my name is Jim and I play the ukulele. I'm relatively new to the music scene, having picked up the ukulele for the first time almost 4 years ago, and I've been winging it ever since. The uke is my first instrument and I'm primarily self-taught, with a few pointers from folks here and there.
I originally took up the ukulele right before my twins were born. I wanted to be able to play and sing for them, and I wanted them to grow up in a house that was always full of music. Now almost 4 years old, my kids each have a ukulele of their own and love to make as much noise as possible.
The music that inspired me to choose the ukulele as my instrument of choice was "The Cowboy Song" as sung by Tom Hanks in the movie "Joe vs. the Volcano". It was the first song I learned to play, and I've made a recording of it that you can hear right here (link is in the blog).
When I'm not playing ukulele I write short stories and graphic novels, some of which have been published. I can usually be found playing songs at comic book conventions, busking for the crowd as I sell my books.
I've just finished an album called "Ukulele Jim's Authentic Down Home Marital Aid" featuring many other talented supporting musicians. The next project I'm working on is a children's album.
I hope you enjoy, and let me know if you do or don't. I welcome feedback on my playing, arranging, singing and whatever else you'd like to comment on.
Hey there Ukulele Jim...thanks for being friends, too! I just got the Jenny in February...love it! It's my first since my childhood uke that went missing eons ago. Have a uku-lovely day... Cyndi
