   About Mandragora
Mandragora have given costumed musical presentations, for a number of years now, to Schools & Historical Societies on the history & development of traditional musical instruments. These presentations feature many of our more unusual instruments including the Hammered Dulcimer, Hurdy Gurdy, Shawm, Bombarde, Crumhorn, Mouth Bow, Horn, Psaltery etc etc. *..........* . Mandragora also provide suitable music in costume for Wedding Banquets, Irelands first Jousting Tournaments at Shane & Slane Castles, plus a wide variety of other historic re-enactment events including Medieval Banquets & Jousts. *..........* . Mandragora also provide music each year, in period costumes, for a whole host of historical and re-enactment events throughout Ireland, for the prestigious: 'Irish Arms' [ http://www.irisharms.ie/ ] who are responsible for authentic re-enactment events around the country, including Film & TV work. *..........* . Mandragora are available to provide suitable ancient music, in costume, for Druidic ceremonies, including Weddings. *..........* . I composed the first tune above to celebrate the huge Medieval Festival at Slane Castle back in 2003. Loughareema, can be seen from the road from Ballycastle to Cushendall in North Antrim & is also known as the 'Vanishing Lake'. *..........* . The other three tunes we played with our good friends Caitriona & Marcas O'Murchu who played Flutes, Whistle & Tambard & if you listen closely you can hear Caitriona dancing on the last track! For those really interested in Ireland's Reenactment scene, I would recommend that you check out the forum here at: < http://livinghistory.ie/ > & also visit these three websites: Irish Arms at: < http://www.irisharms.ie/ > Montague Heritage Services at: < http://www.montague.ie/ > & The Irish History Company' at: < http://www.irishhistoryco.com/ > Check out my other Band Space at: < http://www.myspace.com/causewaytraditions >Hope you enjoy this clip which was filmed by http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=WindsOfCreation at the Budapest Folk Arts Festival in Hungary. The first few songs of the medley are Ugros (jumping dance) melodies, followed by some Csárdás songs. The instruments appear to be (from left to right):- Koboz (a lute like instrument) - Duda (Hungarian Bagpipe type instrument) - Teker Lant (A Hungarian variant of the Hurdy Gurdy) * To learn more about the Traditional Music of North Antrim, visit my NORTH ANTRIM MUSIC FORUM at: http://www.gossiping.net/phpBB2/index.php?mforum=northantrimmusi *.....* FILMED AT THE 'BUDAPEST FOLK ARTS FESTIVAL'17th AUGUST 2006: ................................................................................................................................... ................................................................................................................................... We love the sound of fiddle tunes played on the hammered duclimer.
You have a really nice version of Mississippi Sawyer on your site!
From your friends at the Roller Mills String Band.

May your pockets be heavy—
Your heart be light,
And may good luck pursue you
Each morning and night.

Happy 2008 :-)

Thanks for the kind wishes. In reply, and along the same vein, we offer this greeting:

May you have all the happiness
and luck that life can hold—
And at the end of all your rainbows
may you find a pot of gold.

Hello there - haven't had the snow yet. Have you got it there already? Have to admit that strictly speaking it is another part of Argyll in the photo -up around Ballachullish. We're not techie enough for backgrounds - it was Anne's daughter wot did it - thought the page was too spartan. It's bonnie though!
Drop me an e-mail with your news

thanks for adding me as your friend. I just want to tell you about my buddy Adam Sweet, who is the fiddler in my band Woodkerne, he's working hard to book us this summer for weddings and parties and such. If you're needing a good wedding group, please check out Adam Sweet's myspace page. Thank you!

Hey Ptarmi! One of my band mates just forwarded me the message you left on the BRB's profile about the Irish washerwoman. Thanks! I know, I know... it's the most standard of the old standards, but everyone knows and loves it (well, don't say that on thesession.org). I love your Captain O'Kane! I did a version on my old album, but it's not quite as nice as yours. One of my favorite O'Carolan tunes.
Cheers,
Marty

Heh heh heh, that is funny. We play some Old Timey American tunes, but they (my band) had to force me at first. I'm finally getting the hang of it now. I like it, but I love the old Scotch/Irish music even more. But it's all good stuff, right? If I ever get back to Ireland I'll have to time it with one of your medieval festivals. Great playing! Your son looks like he's an acomplished musician as well. Good stuff!

Hello Mandragora! Is this the same Ptarmigan from thesession.org I wonder? Surely, there can be only one Ptarmigan! Great tunes!

NICE playing!! I was in Ireland last may. I had hoped to find at least one dulcimer player in my travels but no such luck. Thanks for saying hello.
