I have been thinking much lately about what is the future of ULTRANOMICON, and have determined that some things will change.
Here is number one: Instead of releasing albums every so many years, I will be releasing individual songs, with much more frequency. The truth is, since I've released the Doom Castle album, I've recorded many songs... and I've released only one. That is sad. But I could have released many songs, if I hadn't been focused on releasing an ALBUMinstead. In this day and age, and especially in this digital format, I see no advantage to releasing an album. From now on, It'll be one song at a time, and should be much more frequent. I want to keep the data output constant, no big old gaps between album releases.
Here is number two: Original music. There's some serious limitations in only doing cover songs, and that's probably obvious to everyone. I can't get partnerships with Google, I've never acquired proper licensing agreements, I don't actually 'own' the music I'm making, etc. However this band, ULTRANOMICON, actually started as an original music band, and the truth is I'm perfectly capable of putting out good original music! Truthfully I've made and recorded three times as many original songs as video game cover songs. So from now on, the majority of music released by ULTRANOMICON will be original music. Some people will probably not like this idea... but I can promise that if you like video game music, you will like ULTRANOMICON original music. It's... similar.
Here is number three: There's probably going to be less 'shredding', guitar solos, and stuff like that. I want to make music more focused on melody and songwriting than on 'who is the most badass guitar player'. Maybe in 1980, I would have been a guitar master. But nowadays there's many guys who are better than me. Rather than try to fight a fight I know I can't win, I'll focus more on my own strengths, which is songwriting and melodies. At this point in time, it's unknown whether or not people will actually MISS the guitar solos. I have a feeling that they won't, but I could be wrong. This would be something I'm interested in people's opinions about.
Will there be more video game cover songs??
Definitively, yes. I've already arranged and recorded many more cover songs, and arranged many more. Obviously I love video game music. I have lots more video game covers to bring to the world. But that is not ALL I want to bring to the world, and I believe it should take a back seat to things that people haven't actually heard before. You've probably already noticed, that there are many video game metal bands out there. Some of them are better than I am. I want to release video game cover songs purely out of fun, and I don't want to feel like I'm trying to 'compete' with other people for what is a very small niche. That's why I'm going a different direction, to ease some of the pressure in the area of video game covers.
Thanks to everyone who read this!! Feel free to let me know your own thoughts. Cheers!!
Just letting you know I have a new entirely original album written and recorded. What's the problem then??
... the mixing :(
So far I haven't been able to get this album to sound anywhere near as good as it needs to. It's been entirely frustrating and I'm on like the 48th mix so far (seriously). Anyways wish me luck so I can get this album out to you as soon as possible.
All ULTRANOMICON albums are now once again free of charge. Unfortunately, you will have to COPY AND PASTE the links since myspace no longer allows me to link directly to these sites. I assure you they are 100% safe, they are all .mp3 files.
If you feel like you'd like to give back, you can help to spread ULTRANOMICON through word of mouth or by using these songs for your youtube videos etc. Just please give credit so people know who made the song ;D ('music by ultranomicon' is enough)
