What's Umisen-Yamasen?
UMISEN-YAMASEN is a group of Japanese Manga & Otaku artists. We have been actively based in London, since Spring 2006. We are producing several originally designed postcards, comic books, etc.
Some of our designs are cute but not only cute. Some are cool but not only cool. Some are funny but not only funny, and all of them are highly unique and original.
So what is UMISEN-YAMASEN? It is a Japanese word that means, "(a person who) experienced in the ways of the world". It came from one of the Japanese traditional legends as follows. In ancient times, people believed in a snake that lives at sea (UMI) for a thousand (SEN) years and at mountain (YAMA) for a thousand (SEN) years will become a dragon, which symbolises "magnificent beings". However, UMISEN-YAMASEN also means "a cunning person who knows a lot of sly tricks by experiences".
Now, you know why we call ourselves UMISEN-YAMASEN.
