Umbriel Rising is the Electronica/IDM project of musician/producer m.j.brown.
m.j.brown has been actively involved in playing and recording music since the late 1980's and was profilic in various bands and 4 track recordings in the 90's in a whole range of genres from synthpop to grunge.
The recording of the album 'Extraterrestres' even occasionally draws some of those old influences, for example the prototype for 'Galactica Nova' was recorded with a Boss DR550 drum machine and a Kawai K1 synth on a Fostex 4 track recorder as far back as 1992 (the reworked version recorded in Dec 2006 is the version featured on the 'extraterrestres' album). However, most of the tracks were composed as fresh ideas using modern sequencing software and computer recording/mixing and mastering processes from August 2006 through May 2007.
Umbriel Rising is Electronica / Intelligent Dance Music with a blend of rock/funk/progressive house/techno and old skool synth music, as composed by the likes of Kraftwerk, Jean-Michel Jarre and Tangerine Dream etc. For the most part it is performed using real instrumentation played by m.j.brown, with modern sequencing software and some sampling and off the wall modern production techniques.
Why Extraterrestres? I have always had a liking for the French language and the idea of ufos and aliens and the French word 'Extraterrestres' sounds cooler and more mysterious than the English translation. I hope you enjoy the album as much as I enjoyed making it !
The new Umbriel Rising 'WUNDA' is now available for free download at Jamendo and www.distinguishedrecordings.com

Hey... Hey... Hey... Sorry for the late reply Martin - just not been able to keep-up with internet stuff the last couple of weeks. The CD's arrived Tuesday but today is the first chance I got to properly go through my mail... what a nightmare - I have clearly been MISSING OUT... RETROSONIQUE is just incredibly AWESOME, superb package, stunning artwork & flawless print quality... only beaten by the first class music on the CD itself - truly you rock my friend, you have really outdone yourself with the production here - I am blownaway!!! Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!!! Pete ;)
AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!! AWESOME!!! Thanks a load Martin - I really can't wait!!! Just finished my graphic art project with the school today & it is a massive success so I am really pleased - also means I will have a bit of free-time again between now & the new year... yay... just might get a few more things finished music-wise myself... lol! Best to you buddy & I will let you know the second I have it - thanks again... you rock!!! Pete ;)
WOW... thanks Martin!!! Really appreciate that my friend - I did see your shout at DM but have just not had chance to get on there the last couple of days... school has been keepin me real busy with a number of projects & the deadline for one them (graphic art one) being next thursday, lol. Again, thanks a load about the album - can't wait! I voted for the LQM album straight through the awards, in fairness I rejoyced for Moamers as I know he too put a ton of work in but I was rootin for you buddy as I really love Searching For Esperanto. Anyways, really nice to hear from you - not sure if you celebrate thanks giving or just the US lot ;) but have a good one! Pete
Have a really great weekend ahead & I hope you get a chance to listen in to tomorrows music special on the TDFZ Radio Show Warmest wishes & keep Dreaming Chris
Lol... your Wife gave you a slap on the back of the head for getting excitable over Alyssa Milano - lol... very funny & probly deserved! ;) No seriously... good for you Martin, all your music sounds great - I am proud to have you as one of my friends! Pete :D
Hi Martin I hope you and your family are keeping very well. Just listened to your new track "Trippy Dub Chill", Wow...its packed pull of musical suprizes, I like the change in playing styles from the busy Hi tech beginning to a more slower chill out ending, you certainly put your all into your music with great precission and envelope it into a perfect mix, it would be nice to hear this on DM, hopefully in the future :) Have a good week Martin Take care Mike
Great sound on your "Trippy Dub Chill" Martin!!! Goes great with your spacey back-drop. Got a fantastic space-chiller vibe on this particularly with all the analogs - reminds me of the the black-holes & aura-style spacey scenes from the movie Flash Gordon... but more as I remember it from a child (when it looked really cool & not like now as an adult where you spot the fake scenery!). The change in pace & tempo around the 5min mark is a great touch bringing a more tribal & exotic flavour - despite being such a contrast in scenario's it works to perfection... very well produced & thought-out piece - wonderful to hear the masterful flavour of Umbriel gracing my speaker & headphones again with new material!!! :D "Mystery Profit" is playing away now... I couldn't resist yey another listen of listens again - still my fav track of yours & KICK-ASS as EVER!!! Again... thanks for the heads-up I will try to keep-up though myself & hopefully next time I will suprise you by getting here first! Best Regards Always Pete ;)
I just want to mention two words... Mystery Prophet!!! Everytime I hear it my tongue is on the floor... that is just one MoNsTeR piece of work you put out there. :D
Really!! I'm glad that you like it! It was really a hard work, all that synths and fx's :)) it's all new stuff for me. and thanks for sending your CD's!!
Yo!!! Just checkin-in at your MySpace Martin!!! Really enjoying all your new songs at DM... the Perkie collabs... the collab with Bruce... the RadioHead song an of course your new one!!! Really must stop being such a lazy bugger an get my finger-out to finish my parts on our collab!!! C U LATER BRO... Pete ;)
