UNABASHED is an independent Malaysian band that stormed into the local music scene in mid-2003, when original members of the band got together to compete in the “Port Dickson Battle of the Bands.” In their first-ever public performance, Unabashed remarkably emerged as champs in the instrumental performance category.
It has been five years since, and countless jamming sessions and roaring gigs have positioned Unabashed as a band to be heard. Unabashed scored radio success in August 2006 with their oriental-inspired rock track "Whisper to the Storm", which made its debut at 1 on XFresh FM's Top 10 Chart.
The Malaysian airwaves have also been roused by “This is Not A Drill”, an original post-rock track by the band that soared up to 2 on Fly FM's Campur Charts. Unabashed has also enjoyed significant presence on the Xfresh FM Top 30 and Carta Kampus Charts. All this…without even releasing an album or an EP.
As a band that captivates both live audiences and radio listeners alike, just what makes the sounds of Unabashed so powerful and distinct? The answer seems to lie in a statement that the band once unwittingly made about their music:
“We don't presume to know all the answers,
but we hope to ask the right questions.”
True to the band's claim, the confident yet unassuming voice of Unabashed emerges with clarity through their music. Unabashed is a stunning fusion of contrasts that works: loud rockish tunes blend effortlessly with sensitive, poignant lyrics; while the band's easygoing nature belies their intense passion for music.
Unabashed manages to resonate with diverse realities through their striking combination of solid musicianship and evocative lyrics that bring insight to life's myriad questions. With songs that are musically dynamic and lyrically uplifting, Unabashed provides a refreshing contrast to the dark and dispiriting rock scene of today. All six band members are not simply passionate about “music” - but music that works to inspire and reaffirm listeners.
It is but a matter of time until the release of Unabashed's debut album, with the band already working on exciting new material in anticipation for that momentous day.
